MINNEAPOLIS — Former Vice President Walter Mondale is hospitalized with the flu.

Mondale was supposed to introduce former President Jimmy Carter on Friday at the annual Nobel Peace Prize Forum.

Instead, Carter told the crowd that his former vice president was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

Carter said Mondale had gone to the hospital for a routine check-up and was admitted after doctors discovered he had the flu.

He and Jimmy Carter have the distinction of having the longest retirement, at currently 34 years, of any President and Vice President duo in history.

I was trying to make the point that the flu isn't like diabetes, hypertension, or nascent cancer where you aren't even aware you have it.

I am stuck in LA and have been since 12/23 because I had a respiratory incident. No diseases just my funky COPD. after I was admitted I got the new flu strain along with a new virus. The new flu strain was not part of this years package but I also didn't get the shot like usual. I knew I was sick but didn't know I'd had all the other crap until it was over. Sucks getting old.......

at least according to my primary doctor (who also has a specialty in geriatrics). He said this was the worst in 20+ years that he has seen at our local hospital for elderly contracting the flu.

Get well soon Mr. Mondale!!!!!
