Jeb Bush Flip Flops On Indiana Anti-Gay Law: 'We Shouldn’t Discriminate'

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) on Wednesday reportedly backpeddled on his support for Indiana's new "religious freedom" law protecting the right to deny certain services to gay couples.

"We shouldn’t discriminate based on sexual orientation," Bush told a gathering of Silicon Valley donors, we shouldn’t discriminate based on sexual orientation, according to audio tapes obtained by the New York Times.

Though he remained supportive of a bill supporting religious rights, this caveat was a retreat from the stronger position he took during a radio interview this week.

Speaking to conservative host Hugh Hewitt on Monday, Bush said that Indiana had done "the right thing."

“I just think once the facts are established, people aren’t going to see this as discriminatory at all," he said.

Bush Shifts Tone on Indiana Law

Jeb Bush “appeared to modify his public comments about Indiana’s ‘religious freedom’ law on Wednesday in a closed-door Silicon Valley fund-raiser, telling a small group of potential supporters that a ‘consensus-oriented’ approach would have been better at the outset,” the New York Times reports.

“Mr. Bush’s comments were strikingly different in tone and in scope from what he said on Monday night in an interview with the conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt. In that interview he praised Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana for doing the ‘right thing’ and said that the new law was similar to one in Florida and to a law signed by President Bill Clinton in 1993.”

First Read: “The problem for Bush is that all of this only feeds the narrative that conservatives can’t trust him on these types of issues — compared with the rest of the GOP field. It also cuts against the identity he has created for himself — as someone who prefers running a general-election campaign instead of a race to please the base. It’s a tricky place to be in, because it ultimately ends up pleasing no one. “

Every Republican candidate came out in favor of this law. It is no different than the Nazi fascists discrimination. The Republican Party is a racist, homophobia hot bed of war mongers. I can only imagine how disgusted Eisenhower would be to see how the party have deteriorated into party of hatred.

I saw this on Huffpost...

"BTW, Memories Pizza has set up a GoFundMe page which has garnered nearly $50,000 from Christian bigots. It needs to be shut down. To do that: go to www.gofundme.com/contact/ -> click on green contact button. Select "donor" as type, then "other" then click the "I still need help" button and submit your message directly to them. The more messages they receive, the faster they will close the account."

I never did get why Jeb Bush even vocalized his support for the law. The smart thing would have been to shut his pie hole if he really is looking to run for the top prize. I guess I mistakenly thought that Jeb was going to ride in and save the Republican Party from itself on issues like gay marriage, marijuana laws, etc. Our asshole Conservative PM in Canada knew this. He rose to power partly through courting the anti-choice crowd along with the bigots and racists (yes we have those in Canada). But once he attained a position of leadership he knew that in order to win the greater electorate he had to drop his social conservative fights. And so he gave in on gay marriage, and abortion rights. And he's even warming up to medical marijuana access. He's an asshole but he's a smart asshole. He drops those issues in order to stay in power so he can really screw with the economic structure of the country and promote his buddies in the oil industry.

I thought Jeb was more in Harper's mold. Dumb and greedy enough to be a Con, but smart enough to know what kind of Con he has to be to attain and hold power. But these flip flops together with his ignorant unprepared for speech on foreign relations shows me he is as stupid as his brother.

Jeb Bungles Facts, Pronunciation in His Big National Security Speech
Trying to sound presidential, Bush instead came off like a confused former governor.
