Iran nuclear talks: 'Framework' deal agreed

Source: BBC

An outline agreement on the future shape of Iran's nuclear programme has been reached after marathon talks between the Islamic Republic and six major powers in Switzerland.

Iran's Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said "solutions" had been found after eight days of negotiations in Lausanne.

And Germany - one of the six powers - said agreement on a framework deal had been found.

You can negotiate with the radical Iranians, but it is impossible to negotiate with rabid Republican scum bags. I truly despise todays Republicans. Nothing more than a pack of fascist racists.

Netanyahu has already said that a deal must include major restrictions and include that Iran must stop supporting terror. He is the worst of the worst IMO. I hope that the deal can get done by the end of June and shatter Bibi's major narrative throughout his political career. BUT I am delighted to hear this news and it is another step toward a great victory for peace. I'm no Democrat and never voted for Obama but I applaud both him and John Kerry for having the courage to stand against neocon pressure and their widespread influence to work toward a tremendous achievement. I remember taking a ME politics class in College three years ago. I was the only person to argue for diplomacy which everyone else and the teacher shunned as a fantasy. I'd love to shove it in their faces if I could.

You say you never voted for Obama, are a moderate not a Democrat. Who did you vote for the last elections, who do you support for this next one?

Diplomacy vs war is wonderful, thank you for arguing for that.

Glad you're here! bibi's been the boy who cried wolf for about, what? 25 years now? He was yowling that Iran was on the verge of getting nukes in five years - more than two decades ago. They still don't have 'em. But he's just like our wrong-wingers. Use Fear 'n' Smear. Hope you scare the gullible, unsuspecting, too-trusting voters out there and that'll make 'em do whatever you want.

I STILL don't understand why turning down the heat in the Middle East is somehow not a good thing for Israel. Just don't get it. Seems to me it's a GREAT idea and beneficial for EVERYBODY in the Middle East, INCLUDING Israel.

Live link here, and elsewhere, I'm sure:

http://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2015/apr/02/iran-talks-framework-deal-announcement-eu-live

UK Foreign Secretary statement:

We have agreed the key parameters of a comprehensive deal on Iran’s nuclear programme. This includes Iranian agreement to restrict its programme by limiting its enrichment capacity, level and stockpile for specified durations. Research and development will be conducted within agreed bounds. Iran has also agreed to allow greater oversight of its activities. A comprehensive deal within these parameters will provide reassurance that the programme is peaceful. In return, Iran will receive significant economic and financial sanctions relief including the termination of all UN Security Council Resolutions.

This is well beyond what many of us thought possible even 18 months ago and a good basis for what I believe could be a very good deal. But there is still more work to do. The fine detail of any deal will be very important, in particular specifics of oversight measures and mechanisms for handling UN Security Council resolutions. ... Sanctions will remain in place until the comprehensive deal is agreed and implemented.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2015/apr/02/iran-talks-framework-deal-announcement-eu-live#block-551d8462e4b0b3f858ca67ad

In this deal, Iran has undertaken to carry out a 75% reduction in its uranium enrichment infrastructure, from 19,000 installed centrifuges to just over 5,000 in the Natanz enrichment plant.

It will reduce its stockpile of enriched uranium from about 8 tons to 300 kg. These is a big cut in the nuclear programme. It would extend Iran’s breakout time to a year, and Iran could reach that point in as little as six months. At that point, the overwhelming bulk of sanctions would be lifted and Iran would re-enter the world economy.

This is not a signed deal, however. It only becomes a formal international agreement at the end of June, if the full text, with all its technical annexes, can be finalised in time. But these are the broad compromises that had to be made in order to end a 13-year nuclear standoff.

and it's even more stupid than I imagined. They are behaving like someone announced the start of WW3. About the only one that isn't hyperventilating said "I haven't heard what any of the other countries have said - have they reacted?" Unfortunately, I got banned from FR many years ago (for my 3rd post, which was the 1st one I mentioned Bush in), and I can't be bothered to creat a new email address to sign up with, or I'd give them this: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/foreign-secretary-welcomes-agreement-on-key-parameters-for-iran-nuclear-deal , which is the British Foreign Secretary (Conserative) saying basically exactly what Obama said. Possibly more optimistic than Obama, actually.

I tuned into Hannity on the radio to get his thoughts. He compares the deal to Chamberlain's "Peace in our time" deal with Hitler which was followed by WW II.
Hannity says this opens the way for Iran to build the nukes which will be attacking us in a couple years.
Usual right wing B.S. but just what the GOP Congress will be saying when they get home from Israel.

Not sure in which thread to place this, but it might be helpful to some. I'm guessing many of our lawmakers on the right have no clue about the countries they have been cursing & bombing all these years. The division of religious sects sometimes matter more to those who live there than the political boundaries.

Cultures matter, as do this type of thing, which goes across ancient & modern borders.
