A student at Duke University has admitted to hanging a noose on a tree on campus that sparked protests throughout the week.
The college announced that the individual has been identified as a result of its investigation but the person's name has not been released.
What, if any, punishment the student will face remains unknown.
"The student is no longer on campus," Duke spokesman Keith Lawrence said in a statement. "The student will be subject to Dukes student conduct process."

Makes you wonder how these people feel about the slavery days so far behind them. Must be scary without a wall of brutal foremen standing between them and anyone who might take issue with their sociopathic views.
Thanks for the view of the alert, Dont call me Shirley.

(160,527 posts)Duke: Student has admitted to hanging noose in tree
By JONATHAN DREW, Associated Press | April 2, 2015 | Updated: April 2, 2015 4:16pm
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) An undergraduate student at Duke University has admitted to hanging a noose in a tree and is no longer on campus, university officials said Thursday.
School spokesman Michael Schoenfeld said at a news conference that the school would not release the name of the student who admitted to hanging the noose, found early Wednesday in a plaza area at the heart of the campus.
The student was identified with information provided by other students and will be subject to Duke's student conduct process and that an investigation is continuing to find out if others were involved, Schoenfeld said.
School officials believe federal education laws protecting information about students and their grades prevent the school from describing his or her gender, race or whether the student had been in trouble in the past, Schoenfeld said.

Movie I saw one time had a guy going after the tobacco industry over health concerns of their product. Someone placed a bullet in his mailbox as a warning to drop the investigation.

(23,339 posts)... as can a noose hanging from a tree in someone's yard.
But a noose somewhere on a college campus or city park is probably just some sophomoric prank, a dumb stunt. Not a crime.
Some kid needs a time-out. Maybe a lecture. Not jail time, not expulsion.
