Atlanta officers shoot black woman in patrol car in gunfight: police
Source: Reuters
(Reuters) - Atlanta police shot and killed a handcuffed black woman on Thursday after she fired on two officers from inside a patrol car, the city's police department said.
The woman had been arrested and was in the back of the vehicle in downtown Atlanta around 5 p.m. local time, Atlanta Police Sergeant Gregory Lyon said in an email.
She then fired on the officers, who were also black, sitting in the front of the car, Lyon said. The officers returned fire. The woman was taken to a local hospital where she later died, he said.
The shooting comes as protests reignite in cities around the United States over police use of lethal force against minorities, especially of unarmed black men.

Oh come on! Handcuffed? Where'd she get the gun?
They're not even trying to lie plausibly anymore.

(40,209 posts)How could she have had access to a gun?

(3,595 posts)The 3d guns can get past airport screeners. So don't blame the cops. There may have been a printer in the back seat of the cruiser.
Like everyone else, cops deserve to be considered not guilty until the prosecutors finish finding no cause for action.

(5,105 posts)but she could still aim a gun, which she would have been patted down to find.

(1,456 posts)Both the officers should be fired, for placing a person into a car without searching her. Or did they search her and not find the weapon? Either way, if they are that incompetent they need too get back to their life's work flipping burgers, because being a cop is not it.
Truly unbelievable!!!

(1,456 posts)There are more than a few you tube video's of women searching men. I have no issue with it, or vice versa. She's searching for a weapon, not if I have a dick. He's searching her for a weapon, not if she has a vagina.

A lot of businesses have even stopped drug testing because having someone, same sex obviously, watching someone else go to the bathroom is too much risk to take on.

(5,841 posts)Reminds me of the guy who supposedly shot himself while handcuffed in the back of a cop car. I didn't buy their explanation there either.

(10,056 posts)It sounds very like that case.
Where the handcuffed man committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest.
This is about as plausible.

(they searched me before they put me in the car. I was searched by male officers, and learned later I could have sued them, cuz they were supposed to have a female officer do it.)

(14,779 posts)Except under extraordinary conditions (like the nearest female is DAYS away), males should NEVER search a female. A male can search her purse, her coat or jacket once she had removed it from her body, he may do a visual search, but no touching. It is a big NO NO.

(14,779 posts)When I first read this story, that is what came to mind, the infamous "Bra Gun", a gun built into the bra of a woman. First used in a 1960s era movie that I can not remember the name of (and probably best forgotten) but is popular among shooting games.
On the other hand, I suspect the woman was handcuffed with her hands to her back. Women have something call "Curves" which make a lot of women disliking packing a pistol on their side like a man, instead a lot of woman, who pack a pistol, carry them in the waist band in the rear. This officer may have just handcuffed so her hands were right by her pistol, she pulled it and opened fire. Shooting instead of aiming for the pistol was in her hands, but her hands were still handcuffed together at her back.
Photo of a rear holster:
While looking for a photo of the above I ran across a photo of the infamous bra gun of the 1960s (Through this is from was the post 2000 Austin Powers movie)

(2,586 posts)"It all began when a woman who police believed had stolen a car was put into the back of a patrol car, Atlanta police said Thursday night. But somehow, and it wasnt known how, the woman had a gun and fired shots at two officers, Major Darin Schierbaum said. Officers returned fire, striking the woman at least twice, Schierbaum said. No officers were injured."

(5,841 posts)....how very stupid it would be to open fire on cops once you're in the back of a patrol car. You know you're at a tactical disadvantage and that they'll kill you. Yeah, people are fucking stupid, but are they THAT stupid? I'm not buying it.
