PALMDALE, Calif., May 4 (UPI) -- The manager of a California gas station is trying to find a lottery winner who was given $75 but was actually due a $75,000 prize.
Shamsun Hahar Islam, manager of the Chevron gas station in Palmdale, said a cashier misread the scratch-off ticket brought in by the winner, described as a man in his mid-20s with a large truck, and gave him a $75 prize.
Islam said the man was actually due a $75,000 payout.
The manager, who released surveillance footage of the man, said she is hoping the public will help identify the winner so he can receive his full prize.

(7,309 posts)The picks, I have an Excel Spreadsheet that I created that automatically highlights when numbers match as you plug them in.
I realize this is a scratch-off, but the same principal applies; check your own ticket!

(23,292 posts)Several sting operations have caught employees telling patrons they haven't won anything or they only won a dollar while pocketing thousands. I got stung for $5 one time, challenged the employee who said I'd already cashed the ticket and it was no good. He wouldn't back down. I made a scene, started yelling that he was a thief, and I was going to tell everyone I know what a thief he was. The gas station later got busted for selling ice for $10 a bag during a blackout, or something like that. I never went back, but on 9/11 they were selling gas for $3.50 when the normal price was $1.40. They were investigated for that, too.

(16,306 posts)clerks don't look over the ticket to determine the winning amount, they just scan it. Moreover until it's scanned the ticket has not been officially cashed in.
