Compromise between Ricketts, Sen. Campbell on increase in aid to poor families avoids vote to overri

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Alia Conley

A compromise announced Monday night on a bill vetoed by Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts that would have increased aid to poor families means the Legislature avoids a vote to override the veto.

No details of the compromise between Ricketts and Lincoln Sen. Kathy Campbell, sponsor of Legislative Bill 89, were immediately released.

Senators passed the bill on a 30-15 vote, but Ricketts vetoed it Wednesday, saying it was well-intentioned but financially unsustainable. Thirty votes are needed to override a veto.

Ricketts said in a press release that he was "pleased" to reach the compromise with Campbell.
