Dean Skelos resigns as New York's Senate majority leader amid corruption scandal

ALBANY — Embattled Senate Republican Majority Leader Dean Skelos has told his members he is stepping down from his leadership post, the Daily News has learned.

Skelos, who along with his son were hit with federal corruption charges May 4, made the announcement during a closed-door meeting with his Republican members, a source confirmed.

He is expected to be replaced by either Senate Education Committee Chairman John Flanagan (R-Suffolk County) or Senate Finance Committee Chairman John DeFrancisco (R-Syracuse).
