After Israel trip, Scott Walker says region not ready for Palestinian state

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Des Moines — Fresh off his return from his first trip to Israel, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said he does not believe the region is stable enough yet for the creation of a Palestinian state. "I support — as presidents of both parties have, and Congress members and others — a two-state solution, ultimately. I thought this before going there, and I see it even more, they're not ready for that right now," Walker said in his first comments about the trip since his return. "The security risks are very real, and I think going forward there's got to be a way to have secure borders for the state of Israel itself." (snip)

Walker then headed to Iowa for a trio of campaign events, where he told a Republican audience in West Des Moines that seeing the threats to Israel firsthand has confirmed his belief in taking a hard line against terrorists. The governor, who didn't do interviews during his trip to Israel, described the experience of riding in a helicopter over that nation and seeing its sacred sites and borders with Syria and Lebanon.

"It just gave me an incredible perspective. You could see their enemies right from where we were sitting," Walker said, speaking to more than 50 Republicans at a fundraiser for a local official and supporter of the governor.

One week abroad in a troubled region can't erase Walker's status as a foreign policy novice. But he showed how he quickly could build the experiences of the trip into the stump speech that he uses to sway audiences.

Ignorant, reckless, inflammatory, demagogic, and meddling with 60 years of US foreign policy. He's the Governor of Wisconsin- what the heck is this fool trying to do? (Other than get Sheldon Adelson's backing.)

Henceforth, invocations of Sarah Palin frequently employed the line "I can see Russia from my house," rather than the words she actually spoke, "You can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska."

Wrong line, but Scott Walker, a major Koch-sucker, in charge of foreign policy?

And when I do people make the charge I am defending someone. It goes with the territory and if people feel that way I can't do anything about it. The only time I haven't voted for a Democrat nationally was for Perot in 1992 and Nader in 2000. I was in IL at the time so those votes did not matter. At the state and local level I vote for the best person to do the job whoever they are. That is usually D but not always.

regardless of whether it's a Democrat or Republican--"I believe in a two-state solution, but the Israelis say they're not ready because the Palestinians are assholes, which is good enough for me."

That's how Hillary Clinton thinks, that's how George W. Bush thought, that's how the bipartisan Congressional pro-Israel crowd thinks.

They oppose a Palestinian state, but are too chickenshit to live with the consequences.

The ultimate consequence is Europe et all will stop listening to Israel's American stooges.

I think the new position being adopted is basically Netanyahus which is to the right of where Rs and Ds usually are. Usually these people are "pro-Israel" and dont do anything to pressure Israel but they dont outright say we cant have a Palestinian state. Thats a noticeable shift

just a little more obvious that the standard US position allows us to play no positive role--US politicians say they favor two states because it is not socially acceptable to favor the only pro-Israel alternative--apartheid.

Will the US do anything to actually help the two-state solution come into existence? Nope. Will they adopt shallow pr measures to distance themselves from apartheid? You betcha.

Walker knows he needs to say these things to get campaign funding.

He has to prove how pro-Israel he is. And pro-Israel to the neocons means that you will be willing to start wars, spend billions on wars and enrich the military-industrial complex.

It's rather disgusting.

I'm all for the people of Israel being safe and treated well, and I'm all for the Palestinians being safe and treated well. This is not about taking sides.

The problem is--When the US takes Israel's side, it always means that we are off to war--spending trillions to kill innocent people and sacrifice our brave soldiers for these baseless wars that are nothing but profiteering for large military corporations and defense contractors.

Such a scam.

Scotty has signaled that he will play the game.

He has been doing whatever it takes to get elected since he was a teenager. He is completely detached from the consequences of what he says and does other than how his actions advance his political career. With his lack of education and real world experiences, it's all he knows.

And now he's on a non-stop audition to prove to the right wing billionaires that he is the baddest mofo out of all the Republican candidates- he'll do whatever they want. Destroy public unions? Done. Right to work? Done. Defund public schools and transfer the tax money to corporate schools? Done. Stir up the Middle East? Done.

…and what do you want to bet that he is the nominee?

He is the darling of the Kochs. I don't think they care for Jebby.

As you so eloquently stated, Walker has all of the bases covered. He'll decimate unions, education and what's left of worker rights. He's a climate-change denier. No wonder the Kochs love him so.

No doubt in my mind that he will be the Republican nominee.

Scotty went to Israel to get his talking points from Netanyahu, which he then delivered, thusly reassuring Sheldon Adelson and AIPAC that he's on the "right side" re: policy toward Israel.

While you people are calling him a moron, whoever is running his campaign is executing political masterstrokes.

Take this guy seriously or you're gonna get first-hand experience of a fascist takeover just like Wisconsin did.

It's easy to fall into the trap of underestimating Walker. He just seems so dopey and his manipulations and lies are so transparent, but as he likes to brag- he won three statewide elections in 4 years.

He is an amoral and ruthlessly efficient political machine and has the money and organization in place to defeat his equally dopey, but less driven primary opponents. Honestly, he is kind of a moron, but he is so pathologically devoted to winning elections no matter what the cost that he is the biggest threat to what's left of our democracy in the whole Republican field.

You are spot on!

I think Walker is the favored nominee, in the eyes of the Kochs and other Republican corporate partners. They seem disinterested in Jeb.

I think they've all ready determined that Walker is their guy. He's been having a torrid love affair with the Kochs for years. They admire the fascism that he brought to Wisconsin and they funded his campaign.

This Israel stuff is to shore up and solidify further Walker support--as you said--with Adelson and AIPAC. You must kiss their rings and earn your place at the table before you're the nominee. Walker is jumping through all of the hoops. Clearly--Walker is the favorite of the worst of the Republican party--the corrupt corporations and the warmongering PNAC crowd.

Walker's pro-Israel PR campaign sends a signal that he will be for whatever war they wish--and for killing as many people in the Middle East, as they want. With a Walker presidency, we'd be at war with Iran and Syria before the first year of his presidency.

Walker is the dream candidate of the Kochs, other entrenched corporate interests and the warmongering sect. No doubt, he will be the Republican nominee.
