Obama: Denying climate change erodes national security
Source: USA Today
President Obama called out climate change deniers in Congress for being weak on defense, saying it would be "dereliction of duty" for the United States to ignore the national security implications of rising global temperatures.
Obama's convocation speech at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Wednesday was his most forceful argument yet that climate change ranks alongside terrorism as a grave threat to America's future.
"I know there are some folks back in Washington who refuse to admit that climate change is real," he told graduating cadets in New London, Conn. "Denying it or refusing to deal with it undermines our national security. ... Politicians who say they care about military readiness need to care about this as well." . . .

MSNBC started to show the speech live, then cut away. We will be condemned by future generations for turning away from this issue. This will be one of the biggest issues our generations are recalled for, not the Kardashians.

The truth is you are far more likely to die in violent/extreme weather than you are in an ISIS terrorist attack.

(Pardon for the hideous run on sentence.)
It's not for nothing they are accumulating money and power to extort the rest of us from our work, steal the water, land and the rest. They have known for over 40 years and the rest of the people who could have done something have been navel gazing, losing themselves in fantasies of all kinds and busy trying to get ahead of the fellows anyway they can, no matter how cruel. There is a reason for the proliferation of hate groups, radio and television pundts, and guns every where.
You won't find the well-heeled in the gunsights or on the hate list either. Like abortion, they have the freedom to choose in order to live their lives. The rest are just mice for the fat cats to entertain themselves with.
And I bet they don't find us to be as amusing as they once did.
Everything that is happening was predicted by the Pentagon study in 1973 and there's no reason for the smart money to not act on that information. They did and they still are.

Those may not be what you want at all, some seem to be peripheral to what I am referring to here, but the cause of a changing climae and the demands of increasing population over the last decades make the matter obvious, IMO.
I am unable to find the original in my own computer self-search application. I saved it years ago as a pdf. It has been referred to by a number of books. I have 10 TB of documents and it takes forever to find just one without doing several searches in a row, defining which external hard drive possesses, even though they are all connected by hub to my desktop.
Good luck. And you're welcome.

(49,001 posts)Unfortunately your search term sends me to pages that mention the year 1973 but don't link or explain the 1973 document or even mention it. I haven't gone through all the terms or even very many of them, because I'm interested in the 1973 document and your claim

You can dismiss my 'claim' which was only a statement, not worthy of a citation to MSM. I can't find the exact document as I probably moved it over to a disc.
This is over 40 years old and I only found it 13 years ago. I saved it and went through 6 dead hard drives and OS changes since then.
The links to more recent citings of the national security threat, will give the same information. That was the date from the source I had.
It's likely it is no longer linked at all which is why my time trying to get better results didn't produce the exact document, if it even exists online anymore. The source that linked it said it was being hidden from public view to for years to prevent panic.
Several people were urging others to download it before it would be removed. We've lost a lot of data that as scrubbed since BushCo., who made a practice of eliminating things they didn't want people to see. The more privatization, with paywalls and subscriptions is making it harder to source things.
When scroogle was available, I could have pulled it up for you in moments. Now it's gone and all searches run through google and/ or proxy servers, which have limitied search results (I had scroogle pre-set at a 100 minimum results with no commerical ones) and without it, searches really suck.
Some bad policy decisions were said to be made on the basis of the findings such as Kissinger's plans to reduce the population of 3d world countries to stop them coming here. Sea level rise, ocean acidification, the slow down of ocean currents, unstable weather patterns, the polar vortex moving south, the opening of Arctic sea lanes, extinctions of all forms of life and worst storms and the movement of peoples is well known. We are living through it right now. The threats to the biosphere should no longer be denied, but it still is.
I've spent time on this for you. My computer ran for a long time and froze up the rest of my resources waiting for results. I'm not here to be the Oracle of DU or 'claiming' anything outrageous nor do I have any interest in getting into a fight. The constant negativity I've come to expect at DU is making me lose interest. So that's it from me.
Have a good weekend.
