Labor Dept. orders subcontractor to pay workers unpaid wages

GLOUCESTER, Va. (AP) An electrical subcontractor has been ordered to pay more than $87,000 to several employees who were underpaid for their work on a new $27 million Gloucester school.
The Daily Press reports an investigation late last year by the U.S. Department of Labor shows that E&P Electrical Contracting Company of Norfolk violated the prevailing wage laws for seven of its employees working at Page Middle School from November 2013-14.
The Labor Department report says the company classified workers as "general laborers" instead of electricians, allowing them to be paid a lower wage.
The Labor Department has ordered the company to pay the employees the unpaid wages, including unpaid overtime, and for proper health and welfare fringe benefits.
