LINCOLN Gov. Pete Ricketts set up another clash with state lawmakers by vetoing a bill Wednesday that would have allowed drivers licenses for young immigrants brought to the country illegally.
In his veto message, the governor raised concerns that Legislative Bill 623 would provide licenses to a broader group of illegal immigrants than those targeted by supporters.
"The bill is wrong on principle, and the bill is overly broad," Ricketts said.
State Sen. Jeremy Nordquist of Omaha, who proposed the measure, already has plans to seek an override vote.
