Charges Planned in Florida A&M Hazing Death

Criminal charges will be filed on Wednesday against members of the Florida A&M University marching band who were involved in the hazing death of a fellow student last year, the police said Tuesday.
Capt. Angelo Nieves of the Orange County Sheriffs Office said charges against multiple members of the school band will be announced at a news conference at 2 p.m. in Orlando.
The charges follow a six-month investigation into the death of Robert Champion, 26, a drum major who died in November after being severely beaten during what the authorities say was a hazing ritual aboard a bus after a football game. The investigation was conducted by the county sheriffs office and the state attorneys office.
Also on Tuesday, two music professors at Florida A&M resigned over their alleged involvement in a separate hazing incident. The professors, Anthony Simons III and Diron Holloway, were present while students were being hazed at an off-campus house in 2010, an investigation by the Tallahassee Police Department found.
