Obama Makes Surprise Trip to Nationals Park to Lobby Pelosi

Source: New York Times

Facing the prospect of a devastating defeat in Congress, President Obama abruptly summoned his motorcade on Thursday night and raced to a charity baseball game to track down and lobby his top Democratic ally in the House to stand with him on trade.

Mr. Obama made his surprise visit to the annual congressional baseball game at Nationals Park in Washington in order to personally cajole Representative Nancy Pelosi of California, the House Democratic leader, on the eve of a critical vote on trade promotion authority, or T.P.A. in congressional parlance.

Mr. Obama greeted members in both dugouts and then spent about 15 minutes with Ms. Pelosi. No one revealed whether he was successful, but he desperately needs Democratic votes on Friday to have any hope of passing legislation necessary to seal a 12-nation Pacific trade deal. Mr. Obama has been leaning on House Republicans, who support free trade, but needs at least some Democrats to put the measure over the top.

His decision to go to the baseball game was unusual in several respects, particularly because he is not known by lawmakers as a hands-on lobbyist — or for that matter much of a baseball fan. Hours earlier the White House had declared a “lid,” meaning that no more news was anticipated and that the president was in for the night. Even some aides said they did not realize he was planning to go to the game.

How many people here and across the world will suffer
devastating loss of income, access to food, water, and
healthcare if this pact goes through?

Bernie has lots of bills with his name on them that didn't pass. Therefore he's a "loser" to them.

That's also why they don't take him seriously.

I was told that I would get connected to the comment line, so I left a message about any Medicare deal with the GOP was ridiculous...I said I didn't get how Dems seemed to cave to the GOP and never fought. And I brought up how the GOP is ABUSUNG women and are getting a pass. I said that as a long-time Democratic voter I thought the party was getting tired and that I was geting tired of the party...

Next up Lindsey Graham...tried today, but couldn't get through.. My mantra now ids that the Gop are ABUSERS....this applies to everything they do and I suggest we use the term and get its use to spread around!

Or punishing bankers for bringing the economy to it's knees. Or prosecuting the war criminals who pissed away trillions on war, priceless lives both American and Iraq.
FFS already. What's his deal anyway?

E.g., tag-teaming with Jamie Dimon last year to whip votes so that the big banks could gamble with FDIC insurance reserves.

(And to think of the mega-@#$& I used to get on DU for questioning Obama's utility to the 99%...)

This has got to be the worst political move in the history of Barack Obama's very very short political career and he could give two shits about his legacy ... the tenacity he is showing is just astonishingly in-congruent to his demeanor ... it almost looks like he is possessed ... with destroying any credibility he ever had... if anyone can explain this political suicide please have at it.
