Top General: US Should Consider Embedding Troops In Iraqi Units If Little Progress Made

Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Army's retiring top officer says the time may come when the U.S. should consider embedding American forces in Iraqi units to help advise them.

Gen. Raymond Odierno (oh-dee-EHR'-noh) is raising the option if American officials conclude that Iraqi forces aren't making enough progress against Islamic State militants — even with the support of U.S. and coalition airstrikes.

The Army's chief of staff says that doesn't mean U.S. forces would be directly involved in the fighting. But he says it's an option the president should hear.

Odierno was conducting his final Pentagon briefing with reporters before he retires on Friday after 43 years.

Anyone with a flag rank should be required to have their children serve close to the frontlines of conflicts.

Obviously many of these children may not be capable of even carrying water for the real fighters. They should still be positioned in a way to report back to their armchair-warrior parents what it feels like to be dealing and receiving death.

We won't need any more drafts to go fight in a war that no one acknowledged. We'll have a few PTDS'd adolescents from the elite that come home and convince their parents that war is hell.

Or, in the case of things like Cheney, maybe not.

Not his ass on the line. He will be moving to a lucrative consulting gig with an arms dealer and business will be very, very good.
