Iran Deal Within One Vote Of Being Veto-Proof
Source: Huffington Post
Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) came out in favor of the Iran nuclear deal on Tuesday, calling his decision a "very hard choice" and putting the administration within one vote of a victory.
Coons is the 33rd Senate Democrat to come out in favor of the deal, which curbs Irans nuclear program in exchange for some sanctions relief provided by President Barack Obama. The president only needs one more Senate Democrat to reach 34, the number needed to sustain his veto.

Once the required number declare, I fully expect some of those 11 will get a green light from the party to oppose the deal in order to protect their seats. That's a standard tactic, since from the party's perspective, it isn't material how much the deal passes by as long as it passes, but it is material if they lose any seats.

So, can we surmise that any of the eleven who are NOT running for re-election would be the prime candidate for the remaining "yes" vote?
dem senators in red or purple states will be inclined to take the free pass.

(68,868 posts)The third likely wrong vote--Ron "Don't Call me Rand" Wyden--is also from a deep blue state.
No red state Democrats have even indicated that they're even leaning towards voting for it.
Donnelly has committed to voting for it.
Manchin has broadly suggested he would vote for it.
McCaskill has committed to voting for it.
As has Jon Tester.
All of the purple state Senators who have announced--Bill Nelson, Tim Kaine, Jean Shaheen, Angus King--have announced in favor of the deal.

Pandering for money is the only reason to be on the other side of this.
Grow a spine, Senators, and do what's right for the US, the Middle East, the world, but maybe not for Biibi and the $3, 000,000,000 a year fear-mongers. No fear, then maybe less money in play...
