Tennessee governor signs controversial "gateway sexual activity" bill

Source: Reuters

Snip < Tennessee teachers can no longer condone so-called "gateway sexual activity" such as touching genitals under a new law that critics say is too vague and could hamper discussion about safe sexual behavior.

Snip< president of the Family Action Council of Tennessee, which pushed the bill, said it does not ban kissing or holding hands from discussion in sex education classes. But he said it addresses the touching of certain "gateway body parts," including genitals, buttocks, breasts and the inner thigh.

I read: "Gateley sexual activity" bill.

Look, I like Gateley and all, but I don't think we need a law keeping track of his sexual activity. It's not like he's an orangutan or some sort of endangered swallow. (The word "swallow" has no sexual connotation whatsoever. Get your mind out of the gutter.)

And then...I read it again. Oh. "Gateway body parts". That's just fascinating. Depending on your fetish, that could be eyebrows. Tennessee family reunions are going to get really boring. (GOP families, not good Democratic families that are stereotyped because they live in TN. I understand. I live in AZ.)

When I was a teen or in my twenties my gateway body parts was having a
girl touch me.

Old white dudes w/ too much time telling people that they are not related to
on how to act.

****** maybe "the kids" could pull out a picture of

David Fowler of the Tennessee Society of sticking their noses where they
don't belong and that would kill the mood.

Way to go Tennessee get that teen pregnancy up there with Mississippi and other
places that teach only sex education that doesn't cover sex.

It bans the discussion of anything except abstinence, hand holding and kissing. Basically sex ed will consist of........." someday when you get married you might hold hands and kiss your spouse and then you can have a BABY!"

worried about whats going on in my life? Now you have to hide your feelings in public, what the hell? Now peole will have to sneak and duck. Hell you might as well put women on one side of the state and males on the other if they are not married. This is fucked up, severely and seriously.

Legislators from the party of the insane need to open up their eyes. The same people who are instilling these types of law are their themselves perverted, only sick minds think like this. This has nothing to do with GOD.

a good Christian state like Tennessee can't allow such radical things entering the

I am not being sarcastic, I read this twice, and don't get it. What is it they are outlawing? Could someone take the time to explain what this law even means in layman terms. People can't discuss these things, can't perform them or what? Don't understand why a teacher would need to touch people in this manner to teach a class...

Seriously I am missing the point of this law, feel really dumb. I am usually able to read between the lines on these kinds of laws, but I find my self clueless as to the point of or even the meaning of this law passed. It is vague and confusing as towhat they are attempting to do or push.

They just will not know how to avoid STDs and unwanted pregnancies. There is a ton of evidence for this. The body is pretty well programmed to strongly desire romantic / sexual activity at a certain age. Having raised two kids, there is this point where suddenly, personal hygene becomes very important to them. Up to that point you have to argue with them to get them to take a bath / shower, after it, they go on their own and take alot of time at it.... It turns like a light switch, in short order there is a boyfriend or girlfriend....

The force behind this sudden change is vastly more powerful than parents or teachers. Try to put a lid on it if you want to, it does not work.

Amazing.

Simply amazing. OK, here is my mental picture of the first day of what back in my day was called the "Interpersonal Hygeine" unit of "Health" class.

"OK, settle down, students. We're ready to... Michael, was that your ring tone I just heard? I want you to bring that phone up here, turn it off, and leave it on my desk until it's time to go. Now." (waits....) "Alright, thanks. I know, you just forgot to turn it off. Anyone else 'just forget?' Now's your chance to turn 'em off, because the next one will go to the office until the end of the day." (some rustling...)

"Alright, then. Today we're starting our "Interpersonal Hygeine" unit, which covers the physiological processes of reproductional maturation and how this affects persons in adolescence who should never ever ever ever even consider doing anything that might involve physical contact more explicit than a very short handshake. Meaning, all of you. I'll take questions as we go along... yes, Monique?"

"What's 'reproductional maturation?'"

"Good question, Monique, glad you asked that. 'Reproductional maturity' is the physiological state of being capable of human reproduction."

"You mean... sex? Sexual maturity?"

"I'm not allowed to say that, Monique. For now, we're using 'reproductional maturity.' So, we have two basic items to cover here, and then we can move on to our next unit on anabolic steroids. First item: Young men, keep your hands and every other body part to yourselves. Second item: Young women. If you allow more than two square inches of skin anywhere between your collarbone, wrist bones, and ankle bones to be seen, it's your own fault if you get raped and pregnant, and there will be no abortion for you. That concludes out unit on reproductional maturity. Any questions, students?"

(Long silence. Just as the teacher is about to speak again a hand goes up.)

"Yes, Marshall?"

"Umm... if we're supposed to keep our hands to ourselves, does that mean it's okay to... um... I mean, can we... uh..." (trails off. Teacher consults a heavy stack of paper, flips through...)

"The lege doesn't say, Marshall. Fap at your own risk. Alright, class. Anabolic steroids, who knows what they are?"

The stakes for this year's "Stupidest State Legislature" award are pretty high. My money's still on Arizona but I have to admit Tennessee & Kansas' entries are impressive!

This is just another example of where the state should really stay out of the business of regulating sex. Just who is going to be the SEX POLICE?? As if law enforcement doesn't have enuf troubles in UNJUST TN. Now they want to add another egregious attack on human dignity and rights in the state.
