University of Colorado, RNC still figuring out students’ role in Republican debate

Source: Denver Post

It remains to be seen how much of a role the student body at the University of Colorado, with its liberal reputation, will play in the Oct. 28 Republican debate at CU in Boulder.

The liberal advocacy group ProgressNow Colorado wants at least half the seats in the Coors Events Center available to CU students.

“The Republican Party is partnering with the University of Colorado to host this debate, and enlisting the credibility of Colorado’s flagship educational institution to elevate the GOP and the participating candidates,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Amy Runyon-Harms. “The audience for the debate therefore must be representative of the students of the University of Colorado.”

Would the Dems want a bunch of Tea Partiers crowding into a Democratic debate? No they wouldnt. It would turn into a shouting match.
Just because its being held at a University doesnt give any group the right to insist on being a part of it.

3. True - then don't have the debate on a college campus

The final paragraph of the OP says it all. They want to credential the debate as a college campus with a compliant audience so they can advertise to the country that their message was "well received" on college campuses.

As a Dem, I would definitely NOT want a bunch of Tea Partiers crowding my debate - so I wouldn't schedule it at Hillsdale or Liberty University.

The credential on the university comes with it's student body and faculty and it we give the rebuplicants the ability to carve out their little chosen few for the audience, america gets the wrong impression of UofC and all universities vis-a-vis the message being sent.

Imagine, the repub candidates railing away at medical and/or recreational pot and having the audience (in colorado mind you) applaud.

Wrong on so many levels.

I wouldnt. You dont think they have groups In Las Vegas or Iowa?
It could just turn into one interruption after another and thats just not right regardless of what side of the aisle we sit on.
IMO, there shouldnt even BE an audience. Ask the questions and time the answers. Its on TV and radio. There isnt any need for an audience other than for a candidate to grandstand and try to get in a zinger.

makes sense to hold one at such a university.

90 universities like CU is one of 90 major universities that rent their mascots to 270 limbaugh stations and keep the rw radio monopoly going. like an athlete being paid to wear the nike logo, CU is making a few thousand dollars so limbaugh and local pathetic rw ayn randian wet dreamers like mike rosen can shit on democracy and science while riding ralphie the CU buffalo.

it's really a shoot yourself in the foot idiocy for a university. those stations lead the way in defunding, sabotaging, and profitizing public ed, fighting attempts to lower student debt, and basically crapping all over everything universities purport to stand for in their mission statements. and not to mention leading the way on global warming denial, excuses for police brutality and racism, etc.

if you know any activists there let them know that might be a great opportunity to protest to get CU out of rw radio and in defense of bernie, hillary, liberal ideals, planned parenthood, climate action, BLM, etc.,

Control your audiences. Control the media - Fux Not News gets prime seating.

Wonder if they've again figured out they have bought another election.

Wonder if the imbecile turd blossom is once again telling his moneybags that everything's OK, trust me, I've fixed the voting machines.

The biggest issue is that they are trading on CU's good name to give the GOP clown car credibility. That's something anyone who cares about CU's reputation should challenge.

much space they want to allocate the GIPs, if they want to play. Wonder if they will, or if that was schooled out of them?

Maybe 30% of the seats? Seem sufficient.
