Christian Love On Display At Davis Hearing {VIDEO}

REPORT: Rowan County Deputy Clerks Would Issue Marriage Licenses, But They’re Afraid Of Kim Davis

September 3, 2015

According to Rowan County Attorney Cecil Williams, the deputy clerks in Kim Davis’ office would issue same-sex marriage licenses, but they’re too afraid of their boss to come forward. Williams made the claim in an interview with the Kentucky Trial Court Review, which has recapped the not yet published story on their Facebook page. An excerpt:

Watkins indicates that Kim Davis “does not represent” Rowan County and is not representative of its inclusive values. From day one, Watkins told Davis “I will not and cannot support you” in her defiance of the law. Not only that he was clear he would not represent her as the law in the case of same sex marriage is clear. While he has no stance on same sex marriage, well-established federal law must be followed. Watkins wanted to emphasize several other things. First that everyone who works at the courthouse has endured cursing as they enter the building. And it’s not just at her office. Everyone in the courthouse is scared to come to work. Second that Liberty Counsel will leave Kim Davis high and dry when this charade is over. Watkins thinks the funds they raise off the case should go to Rowan County. Finally and most importantly he has learned that deputy clerks would issue lawful marriage licenses. They are simply afraid to do so. And if Judge Bunning instructs them to do so . . . they will. Davis has put, in the words of Watkins, her employees and everyone in the courthouse in a “terrible position.”

Todd Starnes: Kentucky Clerk Prepared to Go to Jail

Davis is the clerk of Rowan County, Ky. - a small patch of earth in the northeastern part of the state. She was elected last November - taking the place of her mother, who held the position for nearly 40 years.

It's fair to say that issuing marriage licenses was something of a family business - until the day the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage.

No, it isn't. What is fair to say is that the position of county clerk is an elected position, not a family business. The clerk is there to assist the citizens of Rowan County in their dealings with the county government.

She does seem to be controlled and irrational by some delusions about an invisible man in the sky wanting her to do things.

Her job is clerical. Her signature only attests that a form is properly filled out and filed. She is not sanctifying marriages or marrying anyone. She truly is a moron.

As far as competence for the purpose of this legal proceeding is concerned, she appears to be fully informed and capable of choice.

“I’ve weighed the cost and I’m prepared to go to jail, I sure am,” Mrs. Davis told me in an exclusive interview. “This has never been a gay or lesbian issue for me. This is about upholding the word of God.”

That indicates she is completely aware of the potential consequences of her chosen course of action, and is fully competent to direct her defense in this proceeding.

First, I'm quite sure that no rabbi is an authoritative source on "what her group believes" any more so than I would expect a Catholic priest to sort out who is a faithful Muslim.

Secondly, it is clear that the rabbi doesn't have much exposure to how these people deal with that particular passage. You can rest assured they feel no obligation to obey a government which requires them to do something contrary to any of their other beliefs.

Her group turned up to support her today outside of the courthouse, so it's a safe bet they don't agree with some outsider's opinion of what they are "supposed" to believe or do.
