O’Malley Super PAC Cuts Iowa Staff

Source: PoliticalWire

“A super PAC supporting Democratic presidential hopeful Martin O’Malley has laid off 38 organizers in Iowa — about three-quarters of its staff here,” the Washington Post reports.

“Generation Forward, a political action committee launched by longtime O’Malley aides and other boosters, maintains 13 people on the ground in the nation’s first nominating state, spokesman Ron Boehmer said Wednesday night.”

Can't keep employees if they are not getting the results they thought they could get.

this is the PAC, and his actual staff on the ground in Iowa has increased.

"We always had this plan where our first goal was to get the governors' name ID up in the field," Boehmer said. "We are moving into the second phase of our campaign, which is going up with a digital and broadcast side. We intend to ramp up our field efforts later this fall after the debates." . . .

Boehmer said it is "just not accurate" that this decision was made because the super PAC is running out of money. Instead, he said, the downsizing is partly because O'Malley's official campaign has staffed up their field operation and currently has 30 organizers on the ground.

"It is simply just us changing our focus," he said. "We aren't pulling out to go to another state."

The group has plans for a "mid six-figure" ad buy in late September, early October, the spokesman said.

Shortly after its launch, the group said that it planned to supplement the field efforts of the former Maryland governor in Iowa, a state where O’Malley is counting on a strong showing in next year’s caucuses to propel him in a race where he has struggled to gain traction against Hillary Rodham Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).

Boehmer said that the super PAC’s retreat was due in part to the staffing up in Iowa by O’Malley’s campaign itself -- which operates independently of the PAC -- and he said that he expects Generation Forward will scale back up later this fall after the Democratic debates begin.

I am not worried about this. It's actually a more efficient plan.

I'm for Bernie, but the more progressives in the race the better for the Democratic Party and the country. I'd like O'Malley to be able to have clout in the debates too.

It's all about the ideas.

and it is a damned shame, thanks, but this downsize of the PAC was planned. Discussed above, in edited posts.
