Clashes as Israeli soldiers storm Al-Aqsa compound
Source: Al Jazeera
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemns "attack" on Al-Aqsa following clashes at one of Islam's holiest sites.
Clashes have erupted after a number of Israeli soldiers entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem, police and witnesses said.
The Israeli security personnel used tear gas and stun grenades, as they entered the compound to arrest what they called Palestinian "stone throwers".
Omar Kiswani, the manager of Al-Aqsa Mosque, told Al Jazeera that 80 "Jewish settlers" protected by the Israeli police, attacked the mosque when confronted by Palestinian volunteer guards.
A statement issued by the Israeli police said that "masked protesters who were inside the mosque threw stones and fireworks at police".
A Muslim witness accused police of entering the mosque and causing damage, saying prayer mats were partially burned.
Clashes later continued outside the mosque complex, with police firing tear gas and stun grenades.
Israeli security forces closed the mosque's compound to worshippers following the clashes that come just hours before the start of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah.

(58,724 posts)Israeli police on Sunday discovered pipe bombs during what they said was a preemptive operation at Jerusalems flashpoint Temple Mount, prompting one senior minister to warn that Israel would review measures at the site, which is holy to both Jew and Muslims.
The Palestinian Authority, Jordan and Egypt condemned the Israeli government for the incident. Police said it approached the compound to prevent an attempt to disrupt Jewish visits to the site.
Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan warned that the discovery of the pipe bombs forces us to reconsider the arrangements for the Temple Mount.
It is unacceptable that Muslim rioters who barricaded themselves during the night on the Temple Mount can, at will, turn this holy site into a battlefield, including throwing stones, shooting firecrackers directly at security forces, and even bringing explosive devices into the area of the mount, he said.

Masked Arab rioters had prepared pipe bombs to be filled with explosives in a planned pogrom against Jews and non-Jewish tourists on the Temple Mount Sunday. Advanced intelligence helped police foil the attack, and law enforcement officers startled the Arabs shortly after dawn, as reported here.
Police spokesmen stated: Masked protesters who were inside the mosque threw stones and fireworks at police. Suspect pipes that could be filled with homemade explosives were also found at the entry to the [Al Aqsa] mosque. Police later removed any doubts that the objects were not pipe bombs.

Its no coincidence that Israel ramps up the terror tactics before a Jewish holiday and says "Look there" Arab terrorists.
I'm not surprised Palestinians armed themselves after all this is all to common. 80 Settlers protected by the army? The last time settlers partied they fire bombed a house killing a family

(3,967 posts)They had explosives onsite (the materials in firecrackers and molotov cocktails, for starters). Yes, the whole point of bringing pipe bombs to the Temple Mount is to use them there. I can't believe you think that's ok. People who are blinded by hatred of Israel to think anything terrorists do is ok and disarming them is an attack.
These young Muslim men were the ones ramping up the terror tactics. wanted to commit a terrorist attack on Jewish worshippers on Rosh Hashana. With that terror their goal was to get Israel to respond drastically, hoping to set off a religious war to bring ISIS types closer into the area. Of course the police had to disarm them.

(3,829 posts)The Israeli soldiers are illegal occupiers along with the "settlers." The illegal occupiers have far more sophisticated weapons than the Palestinians. This is so bizarre.
