If approximately 30 young children and their schoolteachers can be gunned down in cold blood at an elementary school, and no gun control legislation could be enacted even after that, then nothing will change any time soon.

America as a society has accepted this as the new normal.

more guns = more deaths by guns.

now had the professor been armed and able to look 360 degrees at all times, perhaps he could have shot first - and possibly killed suspicious students along the way.

This country has decided that education is only for the wealthy and the States are no longer funding public education with any meaningful budgets forcing students to take on massive debt, lowering the quality of education, decreasing diversity on campuses, and it is happening in every single state.

I don't know the motive for this recent attack on a college campus but I have heard from students that all of the financial pressure and all of the uncertainly is causing many to dropout, act out, and even consider suicide. Higher education is under assault not just by gun wielding crazies but by the State Governments, by their administrations, and by billionaire governors that have power over these institutions.

I fear shootings like this one, if it turns out to be a student, are just the tip of the iceberg. Education isn't failing students, we are failing to educate students and this type of shortsighted behavior will be our undoing.
