Charges dropped against man who did 34 years in 1976 killing

Source: AP

By JOE MANDAK

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A Pennsylvania prosecutor has dropped all charges against a man who served 34 years in prison for the shooting death of a 15-year-old before new DNA evidence was discovered.

A judge issued the order freeing 63-year-old Lewis Fogle in Indiana County last month. But Fogle was merely released on bond until Indiana County District Attorney Patrick Dougherty (DOH'-her-tee) agreed Monday to dismiss charges against him in the rape and murder of Deann Katherine Long in 1976.

The judge's decision stemmed from a joint motion by the Innocence Project and Dougherty (DOH'-her-tee).

But Dougherty wanted to review other evidence before deciding whether to retry Fogle.

wrong on all accounts. I'd want the arresting officer and the Prosecutor at the original trial, put on trial! or have their pockets picked clean with a suit.

Maybe they should put the jurors from the original trial on trial too, since they were the ones that convicted him.

Convict or not convict, to evidence presented or Not. Whatever the case maybe. But in too many cases Prosecutors are only interested in numbers. Conviction Numbers and putting a Number on someones chest. this isn't over yet.
And before you ask, The answer is yes! My views are somewhat Jaded as I no longer trust out Judicial system. Take that for what it's worth.

To have a maximum beneficial impact for justice in our society,
these types of cases are so important. Every case should be reviewed.
Truth should be of paramount importance in our justice system, not
win rate and re-election and pension benefits.

What good could this man have done the world, if we hadn't locked him in a cage for 34 years? It's very possible the answer is "none at all;" it's equally possible it's quite the opposite.
