In Manassas Bernie Sanders talks immigration, living wage, free tuition

Source: Inside Nova

More than 2,000 turned out to the Prince William County Fairgrounds to “feel the Bern” tonight as Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders brought his populist message to Northern Virginia.

A hoarse Sanders took the podium at about 8:15 p.m. to greet a crowd that had been waiting for him as long as two hours as police ushered a long line of cars streaming in from Va. 234.

Sanders arrived in Manassas after a morning stop at Liberty University in Lynchburg, where he spoke to about 12,000 students and supporters during the school’s convocation gathering, which students are required to attend.

As he did in Lynchburg this morning, Sanders, a self-described Democratic Socialist, hit all his usual themes – an economy “rigged against” working people, the “injustice” of extreme income equality and the shame of a country in which people have to work multiple jobs to feed and house their families.

Noting that this says that LU students were required to attend...

The students said that they were NOT required to attend Bernie's speech, unlike Cruz's announcement.

While the close-in communities around DC are pretty liberal the rest of NoVA has been traditionally "southern" and conservative. It will be interesting to watch how the Democratic candidates do around here as well as how VA will go in general and in the general election.

at the Prince William County Fairgrounds for the event. The large park is able to hold huge crowds like the popular rally held for Obama in early November 2008 just before his election.

Bernie's speech roused the large, enthused Monday night crowd that came out. Democratic Socialist is used for Bernie in this piece which is a slight change. What a terrific event in Manassas, VA.

GO BERNIE and GO VIRGINIA!!
