UNITED NATIONS The U.N.s Mideast envoy is warning that clashes between Israelis and Palestinians in and around Jerusalems holy sites have the potential to ignite violence well beyond the walls of its old city.
Nikolay Mladenov urged all parties to refrain from provocative actions and rhetoric, stressing that the clashes could feed into the vicious tide of terror and extremism facing the Middle East.
He told the U.N. Security Council by video link Tuesday that the clashes followed sweeping restrictions that Israel imposed on entry to the Al-Aqsa mosque compound on Aug. 26.
He urged political, community and religious leaders to ensure that visitors and worshippers demonstrate restraint and respect for the sanctity of the area.

(249 posts)turn the whole "holy land" into a UN protectorate. It would be the first country that belonged to everyone -and no one. Pay reparations to the Palestinians and Jewish people living there and kick them all out. Turn the place into a "religious Disneyland". The park opens at 9 closes at 10. "Thanks for visiting -come back soon". This place is sacred to Christians, Jews and Muslims. That's the only way to share it -as a UN protectorate.
The state of Israel is on the verge of deciding if it's a democracy or a soon to be apartheid state. It's just a mess! Take the toys away from the fighting children. Let the "adults" of the world run it.

(120 posts)It ludicrous for the cradle of Religion to be fought over like a carcass. Put a massive fence around it with 6 gates allowing access to the city.
One each for Catholics, Jews, Muslims and Armenians.
One for city workers, agnostic of course
One for emergency workers
Each gate is only opened for 5 hours a day on a rotating basis.
