School canceled Friday as Prospect Heights teachers strike continues into 3rd day

Source: Chicago Tribune

Classes will be canceled Friday for 1,500 students in Prospect Heights School District 23, after a meeting late Thursday evening failed to put an end to the contentious dispute over teachers pay.

On Thursday morning, Bob Miller, a president of the Prospect Heights Education Association, the local teachers union, had expressed optimism that officials would, "get our kids back to the classroom, and our families can get back to our normal routines."

Miller was not immediately available for comment late Thursday night. But District 23 Board of Education President Mari-Lynn Peters said in an email statement that:

"The Board is struggling to understand why the union refused to continue to negotiate on Thursday night September 17. The Board doesn't understand why the union refuses to sign tentative agreements on the items where the parties' proposals are so similar. The Board team will be ready to bargain at 6:00 pm on Sunday, September 20 after "reflecting upon" the recent bargaining events and engaging community members to confirm that its direction reflects the community's values."

With all the blame on teachers of late, strikes are on the increase. Except states (NEBR is one) that don't allow strikes OR teachers unions.

unfunded mandates, long hours, reduced benefits, at the whim of the self interested administration and the idiots at the state level, insane conflicting standards (Common Core v. State standards), underfunded facilities, massive out of pocket expenses, scorn, public ridicule, questioning of intelligence and ability by people who don't have your intelligence and ability, losing the ability to disicpline or fail, status promotion pushed over merit promotion.

No wonder there is a 10% - 15% teacher shortage in the country.

Yeah, strike, teachers! Dedicated servants for our youth should be paid the same as meaningless actors, singers, athletes and any other worthless primadonna that thinks $1m is too little to work 16 days a year (Odell Beckham, I'm looking at you. Beyonce, who bought her kid an 80K, diamond encrusted barbie doll, I'm looking at you. Will Smith, whose own son said education is meaningless and he doesn't need it, I'm looking at you too).

Funny, the makeup of the list of beckham, beyonce and smith to cover overpaid sports, singer and actors.

Now if the list went something like maybe, brady, swift and clooney, the list could have the same clout ?

Just pondering the original listing of elitist sports, entertainment and actor notables, that's all. Don't see any blue collar unionists claiming or expecting expecting to get the same pay scale as the listed elites.
