State Department’s Account Of E-Mail Request Differs From Clinton’s

Source: Washington Post

By Carol D. Leonnig and Rosalind S. Helderman September 22 at 5:12 PM

Throughout the controversy over her use of a private e-mail system while she was secretary of state, Hillary Rodham Clinton has described her decision last year to turn over thousands of work-related e-mails as a response to a routine-sounding records request.

“When we were asked to help the State Department make sure they had everything from other secretaries of state, not just me, I’m the one who said, ‘Okay, great, I will go through them again,’ ” Clinton said Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” “And we provided all of them.”

But State Department officials provided new information Tuesday that undercuts Clinton’s characterization. They said the request was not about general recordkeeping but was prompted entirely by the discovery that Clinton had exclusively used a private e-mail system. They also said they first contacted her in the summer of 2014, at least three months before the agency asked Clinton and three of her predecessors to provide their e-mails.

“In the process of responding to congressional document requests pertaining to Benghazi, State Department officials recognized that it had access to relatively few email records from former Secretary Clinton,” State Department spokesman John Kirby said in a statement e-mailed to The Washington Post. “State Department officials contacted her representatives during the summer of 2014 to learn more about her email use and the status of emails in that account.”

tells me that HRC is still in danger of blowing the whole thing for the entire Democratic Party. This isn't going away just because you want it to.

But the media, conservatives and Bernie fans won't let it go.

Do you ever see Bernie talking about the emails? Instead of trashing Hillary Bernie's fans might consider being more like Bernie.

Has Bernie ever asked his supporters to not bring up Hillary's faults? No, he hasn't. He's depending on us doing so, since he cannot.

It really looks like the State Department doesn't like the fact that HRC keeps rewriting the story on this in self serving ways.

The SD story actually agrees with most of first story we heard on this. The State Department found they did not have most of her email. ( Note her blaming the SD for nor having her email sent to .gov ignores that she was the Secretary then. )

To me it suggests that the SD which expanded a department of about 12 people by 50 to deal with the mess she left them has no intention to cover for her.

BTW, a true story does not become less true when published in WAPO or anywhere else. And this story is true. State is finally disassociating itself from Hillary's statements. Deal with it.

I'm a Hillary supporter, but I have nothing negative to say about him. In fact, the fact that I agree with him on so much is proof to me that he can't win either the nomination or the presidency. Nobody who shares my politics will EVER be president of this country, and those who think otherwise are only fooling themselves. On the other hand, I've seen PLENTY of snark on Hillary Clinton.

to demonize Hillary and the Sanders group are assisting. It is too bad that this has to happen. The repugs will demonize Sanders as a SOCIALIST, which he is, and what I am, but most of the country see that as a dirty word. The repugs want Hillary out.
