Lewiston mayor wants online registry of welfare recipients

Lewiston Mayor Robert Macdonald, a longtime critic of public assistance programs, wants to create an online registry that would make public the names and addresses of all Mainers who receive welfare benefits.
Writing in his regular column in the Twin City Times, a Lewiston-Auburn weekly paper, Macdonald said if the public can get information about people who receive public pensions, they should be able to do the same for welfare recipients.
“We will be submitting a bill to the next legislative session asking that a website be created containing the names, addresses, length of time on assistance and the benefits being collected by every individual on the dole,” he wrote. “After all, the public has a right to know how its money is being spent.”
Macdonald, a Republican who is running for reelection in November, also wrote that he plans to resubmit a bill that would limit general assistance, an emergency benefit program administered by cities and towns, to 60 months over a person’s lifetime, and another bill that would prohibit the state from paying benefits for any child born after the recipient has been accepted into general assistance.

School students and their families! Those sleazy freeloaders who use the library! And put up a checkpoint at the town limits to collect and publish information on everyone using those roads!
Oh, hey... people in the PARKS, them, too, the irresponsible, unaccountable hippies!
And don't forget any and everyone who's EVER had ANY contact with the cops... even being helped by the roadside with a breakdown, or assisted with a lockout in the supermarket parking lot. THEY'RE getting an unearned public benefit, too!
And... um.... YEAH, list the people who have to compile and maintain all the lists of freeloaders, and all the contractors who install the list software and maintain it, and....

or how about a tattoo with a number on your arm , that says under neath my mayor hates me because I am a human being and he hasn't brought any jobs into town , because he gets a pay check off the taxpayers and the people on welfare, and this is what he thinks about me------------he hates me -----------------this right wing hypocrite has no scruples-----------------none, it's all about himself, nothing more nothing less, and the Lewiston residents are giving him a pay check----------------amazing, and all of those fine outstanding citizens that put him office--------------------how does it really feel to be just like him, blame others for what you have created------------------amazing------------take a real good look in the mirror, just imagine if you were in that situation---------think about it for once, instead of your ego's, on how to blame with hate and fear.
And this what the mayor is making off the public doles-------------you know welfare, government pay check , subsidized pay from tax payers
