Bubba Carpenter, Mississippi GOP Lawmaker, Lauds Potential Return Of 'Coat Hanger' Abortions

Republican Mississippi state Rep. Bubba Carpenter recently gave a callous assessment of a state anti-abortion law that critics have cautioned could close down the state's only abortion clinic.
Abortion rights advocates have protested the measure, claiming that the shuttering of the facility -- brought on by potentially overwhelming certification requirements for practicing physicians -- could force women to turn to dangerous alternatives. This prospect didn't seem to concern Carpenter.
"You have the other side. They're like, 'Well, the poor pitiful women that can't afford to go out of state are just going to start doing them at home with a coat hanger.' That's what we've heard over and over and over," Carpenter told an Alcorn County GOP meeting in a video flagged by Rachel Maddow's blog. "But hey, you have to have moral values. You have to start somewhere, and thats what we've decided to do."

(17,301 posts)There was a study a couple of years ago that indicated the number of women dying from back alley abortions and coat hangers have significantly increased in Pennsylvania. I can't seem to find it now.
So Bubba has no problem with all those women dying. That's what finally led to Roe v Wade decision. So many women were dying that juries would NOT convict doctors who helped them. Everyone knew a woman or girl found in a pool of blood or dead in her bed after a back alley abortion. I guess Bubba just wants to see millions of dead and maimed women to have moral values.

(3,322 posts)It's not about "moral values" at all. It's a Constitutionally-protected, LEGAL procedure that women don't need to clear his moral hurdles to obtain. I wonder if he'd like someone to take a coat hanger to his daughter or granddaughter. Or better yet to his scrotum...

(14,337 posts)What state is it that doctors will be gagged from telling a woman that her pregnancy might kill her? She might ABORT to save her own life!!!!! That even includes where the fetus has no choice of survival. Women mean nothing to them.
The mindset behind that is clearly obvious.

(17,621 posts)What do you have planned for the men who got these women pregnant? Despite what you and your ilk seem to think, no woman ever got pregnant by herself.
BTW, has anyone sent this to Rachel Maddow yet?
