Kim Davis Gets An Award For Breaking The Law To Discriminate Against Gay People

The Kentucky clerk was compared to Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks
WASHINGTON -- Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who went to jail this month for refusing to follow the law and issue a marriage license to a gay couple, was given an award at Friday night's conservative Values Voter Summit.
Tony Perkins, of the Family Research Council, presented Davis with a "Cost of Discipleship Award" that compared her with Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks and Abraham Lincoln because, like them, she "pursued justice at great personal cost."
"In today's conflict over the meaning of the irreplaceable civil institution of marriage, one elected official, Kimberly Davis of Rowan County, Kentucky, has inspired millions of her fellow Americans," Perkins said, reading aloud from her award. "As her words and actions attest, she has proceeded with an unshakeable blend of humility and determination. In doing so, she has reminded us we must remember to kneel before we dare stand."
Davis got several standing ovations as she stood on stage. She cried each time, and received a bouquet of flowers as Perkins read the text of the award.

First responders are heros because they do things, modestly, because "it's my job". So it was on 9/11.
Now we have Kim, who never did anything of worth. "It's not my job."

Funny, the Dixie Chicks still pay the price for speaking truth to power (real heros), and this hypocritical idiot gets an award! Everyone would have to concede at this point that the Dixie Chicks were right, yet much of country radio and its fans still boycotts them.

(11,856 posts)when lawbreakers are given awards, Presidential candidates encourage and condone defiance of the rule of law and the rest of the country treats it as some sort of contest or ongoing soap opera. And the vast majority of these people still want to flaunt their racist and homicidal tendencies in the form of a battle flag that was created by treason and defeated on the battlefield.
This is not what I served this country for.

(2,529 posts)Which is a bunch of crock because she's still married to Mr. Overalls. If she were really abiding by the letter of Christian law, she'd leave him because he's not her first husband and she's committing adultery by being with him. When a divorced person marries another, they commit adultery and make an adulterer of the person they marry.

Seriously, as a Canadian, it is truly unique to see in your country how whole families through generations, are unwaveringly loyal to their family's established voting party. Like this woman, she should have switched over to Republican years ago, but voted Democrat simply because that is what her family's traditional support went to. Who they registered to support generations ago.
The same is of course true on the other side. It makes it almost impossible to unseat these long in the tooth old white men in the GOP who do nothing for the mass of their constituents. It is one reason why the tea bagger class do not even WANT to know things like their taxes have gone down under Obama. Or the benefits of the ACA. Or that Obama has no plans to take away their guns etc.. Because they want to believe that all the "facts" are on their side, and do not want to even risk being "brainwashed" by the truthful sounding points coming from the "others".
It is some kind of disturbing type of hubris and blind loyalty. A tangent of that admirable American quality of "sticking by your word" and its regarded as almost traitorous to vote for the "other".
From another DU OP:

"My husband and I had talked about it for quite a while and we came to the conclusion that the Democratic Party left us a long time ago, so why were we hanging on?" she told Reuters in an interview at a hotel in Washington, where she has traveled to be feted at a Family Research Council event later on Friday."
Of course this type of person exists in all countries, including my own. But it goes to a whole nutha level there. Just a curious phenom I notice. Maybe its because you have to register as one or the other, (as I understand it) in most areas in the USA. In Canada you can join a party, but that usually means you are committed to fund-raising, door knocking, phoning etc.. to help them. So it is a smaller minority here that actually do that. No one is required to seal themselves to one party. I'm sure that has an influence on a person's inner willingness to change their party affiliation in the voters booth.

(5 posts)There are hundreds of people who would like to take home $80,000 a year and do the job the way it is supposed to be done. Kim evidently is loving the attention she is getting, not to mention the awards. That is just fine and dandy as long as she follows through with her threat to leave the Democratic Party. With her background she will be perfect for the Family Research Council in joining with the other folks who make family values a joke.
