Saudi Arabia says there is 'no future' for Assad in Syria

Source: The Guardian

Foreign minister Adel Al-Jubeir says there are no circumstances where Bashar al-Assad can remain in power – whether that exit is through politics or by force

Saudi Arabia has called on Bashar al-Assad to give up power or be removed by force, raising the global stakes at a time when the Russians are shipping troops and military hardware to Syria in an effort to prop up its beleaguered leader.

The threat was made on Tuesday by Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister, Adel Al-Jubeir.

“There is no future for Assad in Syria,” Jubeir told journalists at the UN general assembly. “There are two options for a settlement in Syria. One option is a political process where there would be a transitional council. The other option is a military option, which also would end with the removal of Bashar al-Assad from power.”

In that case his extensive family will probably be fine and thrive where they are now. Really can't get much worse in 'Assads' Syria except when his 'hometown' Damascus is crushed and ruined. Assad you think Russia will continue to be your friend if you can't afford to buy any more of their stuff? or if you aren't alive to buy it?

The Russians will thread the Saudi needle with cruise missiles and we won't stop them. The Prize will be split.

The Russians lost a major swath of their southern territory to the Saudis at a time that we were willing and able to provide Riyadh with cover 25 years ago. If Moscow can't get it back, they would have no problem extracting a pound of flesh if we let them. At this point, we might just let them. We have our oone bone to pick with the Saudis going back to their nationalization of upstream oil supply in '73.

is in some serious financial trouble. Noticed a Guardian Story about them cashing out some 30 billion in U.S.equities since August. Their funding of various Isis groups has caused major short falls in their budgets. Interesting months to come.

They have to be absolutely petrified that all that IS garbage will head south to Riyadh when the new alliance starts its offensive.

Remember, Iraq's Anbar province borders KSA.
