BEIJINGA series of blasts in southern China killed at least seven people Wednesday ahead of a national holiday, according to state media, which attributed the explosions to bombs concealed inside courier delivery packages.
According to the Xinhua News Agency, another 51 were injured after more than a dozen explosions occurred in the area of Liaozhou city, in southern Chinas Guangxi region. Two people were missing.
Xinhua said the government had identified a 33-year-old suspect surnamed Wei and ruled out the possibility that the blasts were the result of terrorism. The incidents are being investigated. ... Residents were warned not to open any packages, said a Xinhua report that was posted to the website of the countrys national emergency broadcaster.
Photos online showed a multistory building with half of its structure ripped away, along with images of a large plume of smoke spiraling up from a series of buildings and photos of what appeared to be several bloodied victims.
