Harry Reid: Republicans Are 'Acting As Puppets For The NRA'

Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON -- Four days after a mass shooting at a community college in Oregon, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) questioned lawmakers' willingness to act to prevent similar attacks in the future.

"A broken heart really isn’t enough, is it?" Reid asked on the Senate floor Monday evening.

Reid expressed sorrow over the attack on Umpqua Community College -- which left 10 people dead, including the gunman -- but charged that the U.S. has become "desensitized" to such killings. He added that the reality of gun violence across the country "is not only shocking, it’s pathetic."

"If we don’t take action, we are equally responsible for these innocent deaths as the sick individuals who plot and carry out these horrific massacres," Reid said. "I’ve started to reach out to senators and talking about what can be done to advance the cause of background checks while Republicans are in charge for next year or so. But one thing is clear, to pass background checks, we need Republicans to stop acting as puppets for the NRA."

put back to it's restless slumber regarding the epidemic of gun violence by more of the usual deflections and mass administration of sleeping potions of propaganda transmitted by the mass media?

If Americans are NOT more terrified of domestic gun violence that foreign terrorism then America needs to put out a travel warning advisory for the rest of the world not to enter until they are finished with killing themselves.

Why would ISIS bother with wanting to kill and terrorize a few Americans when they are doing an excellent job of it, 30000 deaths and 100000 soundings a year at untold financial and mental expense - like clockwork, without their help?

I can't believe we blame Reagan and republicans for not doing gun legislation when our own party is almost as bad. Reagan for closing the mental hospitals as if they couldn't have reopened them in the following 35 years. I am not sticking up for the Repugs except to say they don't want gun regulations. We do! We've had ample opportunities in 35 years to do so. I guess complaining is easier.

The President is about to enter into his last year. He is very popular. The GOP is so out of control, its obvious. They have created the environment that we now live in. Big O gave just enough rope. Get ready for change.

I get a kick outta the title line in the OP: "Acting as puppets...." ACTING? Howdy Turtle and Buffalo Boehner are hardly "acting". They're doing just what they're TOLD to do.

Heh.... Can you IMAGINE the internal conflict of a gun death were to happen in John or Mitch's immediate family. How would they spin that? Would they follow Genius Jeb's example and shrug their shoulders while explaining that stuff happens? Just HOW strong are those NRA shackles?

then you must agree Bernie Sanders is GREAT on guns given the NRA gives Reid a "B" and Sanders a "D-".

What say you Fred?
