PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia building owners and a union representing janitors have reached a tentative agreement on a four-year contract to avoid a strike.
The union representing 2,800 janitors had threatened to strike if it didn't have a new contract by midnight Thursday. About 170 office buildings would have been affected.
The Building Owners Labor Relations group says it presented the economic realities facing its members in Center City during negotiations, which began Sept. 3.
Group president Robert Martin says the tentative agreement is a victory for his members, tenants and workers.
