Death penalty foes urge Ricketts to stop 'misleading' Nebraskans about chances of getting lethal inj

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Paul Hammel

LINCOLN — An anti-death penalty coalition called on Gov. Pete Ricketts on Wednesday to stop “misleading” Nebraskans about the chances of obtaining a key lethal injection drug.

Nebraska cannot legally obtain the drug, sodium thiopental, despite what the governor has been saying, say representatives of Nebraskans for Public Safety.

The group, in a press release, cited an authority on lethal injection, Eric Berger of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

“The administration’s statements that it is working with the (U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency) to import sodium thiopental is a red herring,” Berger said. “Under federal law, it is very clear that this drug cannot legally enter the country, regardless of anything the DEA does or does not do.”

It's important to kill people. It's what we do best. It's what makes us stand out among the nations of the world, makes us exceptional. Like North Korea, China, Iran, etc.
