Polish court rejects US request to extradite Roman Polanski
Source: Guardian UK
A Polish court has rejected a US extradition request for the film director Roman Polanski over his child sex conviction.
[Polanskis] extradition is inadmissible, said Judge Dariusz Mazur at the district court in the southern city of Krakow. The decision is not legally binding, as prosecutors can appeal.
The Oscar-winning director pleaded guilty in 1977 to having unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl during a photo shoot in Los Angeles fuelled by champagne and drugs.
He served 42 days in jail as part of a 90-day plea bargain, but fled the country for France the following year, believing that the judge hearing his case could overrule the deal and impose a longer prison sentence.

(68,868 posts)wants to sanitize what Polanski did.
He RAPED a child. He is a child RAPIST.
He is not being persecuted for a sexual miscue. He drugged and RAPED a child who thought he wanted to perform "cuddliness" on her.
He and Cosby belong in a cell together.

(1,062 posts)Yes, true, age is no excuse for not being held accountable for his escape and the original charges... but, what is the underlying issues or cause of US government sudden re-interest in having him returned? They have only waited 38 years ... was someone cleaning out their case load, dusty drawers, or distracting themselves in other ways? Or, is this request something they run by Poland every year to see whether or not they can get an agreement?
