(CNN)Two officers have been arrested in the fatal shooting of a 6-year-old this week in Louisiana, authorities said.
Jeremy Mardis was hit by by five bullets in the head and chest as the officers pursued his father's car Tuesday, according to CNN affiliate WAFB. His father, Chris Few, is hospitalized, it said.
"Jeremy Mardis, 6 years old; he didn't deserve to die like that," said Louisiana State Police Col. Michael Edmonson.
Officers Norris Greenhouse Jr. and Derrick Stafford were charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder following the shooting in Marksville.
"As a father, it was the most disturbing thing I've seen," Edmonson said about the body camera footage of the shooting.http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/06/us/louisiana-child-shooting-officers-arrested/index.html

(6,917 posts)Louisiana politicians are deservedly the target of criticism. But there are some strange and unique vibes going on there. Sure, New Orleans, but there is more.
A state that has fallen for the Republican phony promises is poised to boot them out of office and elect a Democrat as governor. And now, in a very short time, Louisiana State Police have brought charges against two rogue cops who, apparently, murdered an innocent bystander child while playing cops.
Every now and then we get it right because good people continue to demand it despite the opposition. That's how we roll---on the river.

(4,003 posts)They made me proud. It's been a long time since I have been able to say that about my fellow Louisianians. But, I hope to heaven that Marksville, LA. will show the rest of the country how to deal with rogue cops who abuse their power!

(6,917 posts)Edmonton surprised me, but it made me proud they did not drag on the investigation and then attempt to sweep it infer the rug. There's more to this---it looks like boys with guns settling their differences.

(8,175 posts)And maybe this one will stick...they can't say that kid was resisting arrest or had a weapon.
I hope they both go to jail. What a waste of a beautiful young life. I don't know if I hope his father pulls through. He was shot in the head, so it may be better if he doesn't. And if he does he may wish he hadn't. He will most likely blame himself for what happened, even though he ran out fear.
I'm just so goddamned sick of these stories.

It's hard to take such an awful story and find positive in it, but it deserves recognition that things are starting to change for the better.
Poor kid. Some articles just make you want to cry. This is one.

In it there are statements from a third police officer who was called for backup. He came out immediately and said that the victim's father was NOT acting in a manner which threatened those cops, and it's video from his body camera which has shed so much light on this case.
CBS News has learned it was a third officer who recorded the shooting with a body camera after he responded to a call for backup. According to a source, that officer told investigators Few was not acting in a threatening manner toward police.
Those two dirty cops need to spend the rest of their wretched lives in prison.

I am all for dis-arming the majority of law enforcement officers.
LE at best are self-policing public servants and we (and they) should work towards that reality rather than status quo.
