A BNSF Railway spokesperson 25 cars derailed, 10 of which are empty auto carriers, near Highway 35 at County Road I.
Several of the other cars are tankers carrying denatured alcohol five of which have tipped into the Mississippi River and are leaking from vents atop the cars.

(115,731 posts)There don't seem to have been any injuries, but dumping denatured alcohol into the Mississippi is not a good thing.

(4,436 posts)Could be methanol. Could be ethanol.
Could be that it is ethanol being hauled for vehicles (to become E-10 or E-85).
It is far less toxic than if it had been petroleum, or crude oil, or gasoline, or jet fuel.
Alcohol disburses in water and damage is much less than oil would be.

(2,958 posts)Two sets of rails along each side of the river. A train rolls along the Wisconsin side about once very fifteen minutes, parallel to State Highway 35.
