Defense Secretary Carter Says Russia, China Potentially Threaten Global Order

Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS

VALLEY, Calif. (AP) -- Defense Secretary Ash Carter on Saturday accused Russia of endangering world order, citing its incursions in Ukraine and loose talk about nuclear weapons, and said the U.S. defense establishment is searching for creative ways to deter Russian aggressive and protect U.S. allies.

In remarks at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library after eight days of travel in Asia, Carter also expressed concern about China's expanding influence and growing military might. But he reserved his stronger words for Russia.

Carter said Russia is undertaking "challenging activities" at sea, in the air, in space and in cyberspace.

"Most disturbing, Moscow's nuclear saber-rattling raises questions about Russian leaders' commitment to strategic stability, their respect for norms against the use of nuclear weapons, and whether they respect the profound caution nuclear-age leaders showed with regard to the brandishing of nuclear weapons," he said.

is what I recently read, somewhat baffled:

The special operations deployment to Syria comes at a time of expanding use of America’s most elite forces all around the world. In the fiscal year that just ended, U.S. special operations forces — Army Green Berets and Navy SEALs, among others — deployed to a record-shattering 147 countries, according to Special Operations Command (SOCOM) spokesperson Ken McGraw. That number translated into a SOF presence in 75 percent of the nations on the planet and a jump of 145 percent since the waning days of the Bush administration. On any day of the year, America’s most elite troops can be found in 70 to 90 countries.

That's exactly why, the many differences aside, I wished Trump well during the early months of his campaign: he almost single-handedly stopped Jeb Bush from what was supposed to be practically a coronation.

This, I think, was crucial, because once given the nomination, the Bush mafia would have stopped at nothing to see their Jebby win in November - and the consequences of a third Bush presidency would (as you know) be unthinkable.

the 'New World Order.' In this happy utopia as envisioned by the Koch brothers and other more powerful billionaires, nation states are no more. We are now ruled by corporations. Football has ended and Rollerball is now the substitute for war. James Caan is captain of the Houston team...

Oh.

Got a bit carried away there...

Seriously though, TPP and TISA are the oligarchs' move to take over. Putin is kind of a loose cannon because Russia isn't a third world country that the ologarchic west can keep under their thumb with some North American 'boots on the ground.' Nor is China.

That's why they're a threat and our propaganda mouthpieces are making noises about a lack of 'commitment to strategic change.'

Well, cue up Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D-Minor and make it a really big organ...

He's on the outs w/ Putin, gets bumped off in a hotel room in a method that can look cardiac, sending the message like they do in Central America to opponents and the US. Russians get to say, "We did this right under your nose". Sends the message as with Orlando Letelier.
So we're stuck responding in a roundabout non diplomatic level to say, "we know what you're up to."

Like I said, it's what came to mind.

So your scenario doesn't sound that far-fetched after all.

It would be like us building an island in the fishing grounds that we "share" with Icelandic and Canadian fishers and saying it's American territory. The rest of the world as well as people with a sense of fair play would consider that an aggressive move at a minimum.

Russia and China are different entities.

The USA and NATO have impinged on Russian territory, neighbors, and allies.

Russia has jumped into a vacuum in Syria created by the ham-handed and inconsistent policies and actions of the USA and allies in the ME. But Russia is supporting a long term ally in Syria rather being an outside aggressor seeking regime change.

China is much more stealth in world affairs gaining influence and inroads by mercantilism.

China is impinging on other nations territory and economic zones and a major world trade route in the South China Sea.
