Obama Reacts To San Bernardino: Mass Shootings In US Have 'No Parallel'
Source: TPM
President Barack Obama told CBS News on Wednesday that an unfolding mass shooting in San Bernardino was yet another in a "pattern" of such shootings in the United States "that has no parallel anywhere else in the world."
The shooting, which reportedly took place at the Inland Regional Center, a facility that serves individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities, left as many as 20 victims.
"We have a pattern now of mass shootings in this country that has no parallel anywhere else in the world," Obama told CBS News. "And there are some steps we can take to not eliminate every one of these mass shootings but to improve the odds that they don't happen as frequently."
Obama said those steps could include stronger background checks and "common sense gun safety laws," reiterating the same call for more gun control reforms that he's issued after past mass shootings.
"We should never think that this is something that just happens in the ordinary course of events because it doesn't happen with the same frequency in other countries," he said.

(180 posts)This is NOT the 1700's when this was put in the Constitution!
In the 1700's you had a rifle that needed gun powder, so it took a long time to load a gun!
Today we have AK-47 's and handguns that are able to shoot many rounds in seconds.
Other countries don't have all these mass shootings, BECAUSE their citizens aren't ALLOWED to own guns!
As soon as Australia had ONE mass shooting, they banned weapons!
In the U.S. When we have a mass shooting, the NRA ENCOURAGES people to go out and BUY MORE WEAPONS! This is insane!!!!!
America should ban ALL WEAPONS! Who needs them?
Other countries don't worry that their governments have guns and that the public doesn't!
So what's wrong with the U.S.?
Let's break the UNITED STATES up into smaller countries, those with the SECOND AMENDMENT and those who don't allow the SECOND AMENDMENT!
I'm tired of all these mass shootings, just when will they stop?
Not UNTIL the people say ENOUGH is ENOUGHT!

(23,175 posts)and they were mostly just shooting each other. Now every mad dog in the U.S. can get a gun and nobody gives a damn. Letting people have uncontrolled access to guns doesn't work. Go ahead and correct me, that access to guns is controlled. And I'll read about another mass shooting of innocent, unarmed, unsuspecting victims tomorrow, and the day after and the day after that.

(7,358 posts)There will be no action taken by Congress to address this. People should be outraged, but they're complacent. Same ole same ole here in the Great U.S.A. The most violent country in the world. Who will be next?

(100,133 posts)...just spits in his eye time after time.
The GOP is bought and paid for by the NRA, and the NRA is bought and paid for by the gun merchants. The people of the US are sick of this slaughter, but the half of the country that is Republican keeps showing up at the polls to elect the politicians who are bought by the NRA.
So tell me again what the President is supposed to do. He sends bills to Congress. He speaks out. Now what.

(5,732 posts)stop and think about what it would have been like to be a citizen of Iraq during our government's acts of terrorism in that country. Just imagine the 'shock and awe' of it all. I have to wonder if all of the terrorism we have caused through out the middle east isn't coming back to haunt us.
If this would have happened somewhere in the middle east, we would not even be batting an eye. This is close to home and it happened to Americans, so now it has our attention. The reality is that this is a terrible tragedy regardless of where it happened.

(8,742 posts)Many people get it that we have a gun problem in our country. The idea to solve a problem is use violence and a gun. you can thank the nra and republican party for that. To get a gun to fire as many bullets and as fast is just messed up.
I'm a atheist and I think religion is a problem in all countries. I think of black water in America with the Jesus camps or the idiot in Colorado and today in California.

(26,081 posts)We're as bad if not way worse every day of the week. Nowhere else in the world are so many people killed so indiscriminately on a daily basis. Yes, people in the middle east are killed daily but that's due to allegiance issues not just randomly.

So this guy was a gun nut. He was probably even paranoid, and he dragged his wofe down the road. How many "survivalists" do the same thing?
Then his job made him snap. He was already halfway to postal, so it was a short trip to mass murder. Would he have become a terrorist? Maybe, but was this an international terrorist act? Doesn't look like it.
Looks like just another ammosexual with a grudge and a lot of firepower.
