Ex-CHP officer who punched woman won't face charges

LOS ANGELES (AP) No criminal charges will be filed against a former California Highway Patrol officer who punched a bipolar woman as she walked on a busy Los Angeles freeway, prosecutors said Thursday.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said in a statement that Officer Daniel Andrew acted within the law by resorting to force to stop Marlene Pinnock from entering traffic on Interstate 10.
Pinnock was recorded on video being repeatedly punched while resisting arrest. District Attorney Jackie Lacey says the video did not show what led up to the struggle.
Pinnock could not be reached for comment.

(8,267 posts)but I am DEEPLY disgusted that Daniel Andrew will not face charges for brutally and repeatedly punching this woman. I hope she is able to file a civil suit.
Mr.Bill
(24,296 posts)for 1.5 million dollars. I wonder why they paid her so much if they think the cop did not violate any laws? Damn cop should have been charged with attempted murder as far as I'm concerned.
or at the very least assault with intent to inflict bodily harm.
I am disgusted with the increasing number of militarized, bigoted, violent cops in this nation. I sure as hell will NOT call the police, unless someone is actively attempting to break into my house--and such an occurrence is highly unlikely in this very rural community. (Even then, I may decide to resort to my 410 instead, and I know how to wing someone without causing too much damage.)

I guess she should be grateful he didn't shoot her.
"District Attorney Jackie Lacey says the video did not show what led up to the struggle."
So, we should take his word for it..... "I beat the fuck out of her for her own protection"
The lengths these DAs will go to cover for COP terrorism is stunning.

I cannot believe he won't get charged. Well, I can believe it, but I shouldn't have to. Utter bullshit.

(19,926 posts)Every time I hear/think about this story, I remember once, years before this happened, I was driving home on the freeway, it was late and dark and there was a person walking in the center of it. I called 911 to let them know so the person didn't get killed. Now I wonder if they weren't beaten by a CHP officer instead of getting run over. I just hope I didn't do them more harm than good. How sad is that to think that?

(10,056 posts)Calling to cops to 'help' is a death sentence for many.
Hell, the couple of cops that I'm friends with think cops are crazy.
