Volkswagen car sales down 20 percent in UK after scandal

LONDON (AP) Volkswagen car sales in Britain dropped by 20 percent in November compared to the same time last year following the company's admission it had cheated on U.S. diesel emissions tests.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders says there were 12,958 Volkswagen registrations last month in the U.K., compared to 16,196 in November 2014. Volkswagen admitted in September it had installed a device in computer software that allowed it to rig emission tests.
The SMMT said Friday that Volkswagen's decline contrasted with the overall industry's year-on-year increase in registrations of 3.8 percent.
Volkswagen has admitted that 482,000 two-liter and 85,000 six-cylinder diesel vehicles in the U.S. contained the cheating software.

(38,958 posts)I would have thought they would have gone down more... It is truly a company that has broken the trust with the public.
I would see no reason for anyone to purchase a VW.

(3,660 posts)My problems with VW remain what they always were. Ridiculously inflated prices for content level and the coinflip between 300,000 mile and bulletproof or in the shop every month for another $500+ repair straight after warranty. Negative publicity should help the first and the diesels were always a slightly better proposition than gas for the second. Scandal? Irrelevant to me.
Owners keep telling me they can't sell at any price but any scan I do only finds any recent years at 70%+ of sticker let alone well below blue/black book mins they claim.
