Dutch far-right leader Wilders tells Turks: 'You will never join EU'

Source: Reuters

Dutch far-right leader Geert Wilders, the most popular politician in the Netherlands, has told Turks "you are not welcome here" in a video that takes aim at Turkey's hopes of joining the European Union.

Wilders, who is fiercely anti-Islam, has surged in public opinion polls with his call for the closing of national borders in the face of a migrant crisis that has seen hundreds of thousands of people, mostly Muslims, fleeing to Europe this year to escape conflicts and poverty in the Middle East and beyond.

Turkey promised at an EU summit in Brussels last Sunday to help stem the flow of migrants in return for cash, an easing of visa restrictions for Turks visiting Europe and renewed talks on admitting Turkey as a member of the bloc.

In his English-language video posted online on Friday with Turkish subtitles, however, Wilders told Turks in typically blunt fashion: "Your government is fooling you into believing that one day you will become a member of the European Union. Well, forget it."

13. It's safe to say that the far-right does not want Turkey (in any state) joining the EU.

They have opposed that idea for decades long before Turkey's current problems. Turkey's citizens are mostly Muslims, not the favorite group of the far-right. Of course, the far-right does not want there to be an EU at all.

I do not know of any European Country or Western Civilized Nation who will support that entry and for good reason.

bemoaning the fact their shooting down that Russian plane puts NATO in a bind, Wilders is most likely correct.

One of their politicians - Pim Fortuyn

From the article

Recent opinion polls indicate Wilders would win the most seats in the Dutch parliament if there were an election today. His Party for Freedom would gain more seats than the two ruling coalition government parties combined, the polls show.

After decades of relatively liberal immigration policy that let in large numbers of migrants from Turkey and Morocco, the Netherlands, a founder member of the EU, has become much less accommodating.

The country of 17 million people, which is a member of the EU's open-border Schengen area, now implements some of the toughest immigration policies in the 28-nation EU.

8. Gerrit van der G was an Islamist?

I lived in Amsterdam when Pim Fortuyn was killed and the killer remained silent as to intent. So you are spreading falsehoods. If you want to know, it was Theo van Gogh who was killed by an Islamic extremist after producing "sacrilegious" films about the meaning of Islamic verses in the Koran. I was there for that too. The divisions in society will not heal when we justify others' xenophobia. Wilders is popular with the same kind of people Trump is in the US. Take that for what it is worth. Sow dischord, reap the whirlwind.

9. They deserved to die, Pimm and Van Gogh?

How did one of the most liberal societies become wildly crazy for a right wing politician? By the way neither Pim nor Van Gogh reaped whirlwinds.

Van der Graaf said he murdered Fortuyn to defend Dutch Muslims from persecution. He wanted to stop Fortuyn from targeting "the weak parts of society to score points" and exploiting Muslims as "scapegoats" in an attempt to seek political power. -https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkert_van_der_Graaf

He was killed by a terrorist for a movie that showed radical Islam's treatment of women.

What ever flaws western society has it is not racist, xenophobic, or imperialistic to say we are a superior to those to kill over movies.
