Man gets 20 years for shooting over 'red beer' ingredients
Updated 12:33 pm, Friday, December 4, 2015

HAMILTON, Mont. (AP) — A Montana man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for shooting a bartender and killing his dog because the bartender made a "red beer" with Clamato juice rather than tomato juice.

KECI-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1Itux2o ) that that 60-year-old Monte Hanson of Hamilton pleaded guilty in September to attempted deliberate homicide for shooting Joseph Lewis.

Hanson told investigators he became angry because it is against his Jewish religion to drink Clamato juice, which is tomato juice flavored with clam broth.

Lewis was shot on May 9 after he returned home from work. He was carrying his dog when Hanson fired the first shot, hitting the dog in the head. Another shot hit Lewis in the ribs.

Then I feel comfortable blaming my every foolish act on the object of my stumbling - because the object existed before my stupid act.

Why not?

the chicken - and by extension the butcher who killed him.

It certainly can't be MY fault that I choked - and I'm not paying for the paramedics bill either!

I mean, if it hadn't been for that damn chicken, I wouldn't have choked and fallen on my date - breaking her arm!

That is unless (and do I really have to say it), it it NOT reasonable for me to blame the chicken for my act of choking.

And if that is the case then it is NOT reasonable to blame Judaism for the murder of the unfortunate bartender who is one of the subjects of the OP.

Your analogy is nuts.

Religion messes with people's heads and causes them to believe things which lead to bad actions.

The chicken stuff has no relation to that.

(And 'chicken or the egg' is a well-known concept which has nothing to do with eating a chicken)

killing someone if they (accidentally?) serve you a shell-fish product.

No, what's nuts is the struggle on this thread to tie religion to this this act of murder.

No, it's not nuts - its pathetic.

edit: I see now that the it was "only" the dog that was killed. However, my point stands.

The shooter was convicted of "attempted murder," the dog probably saved the bartender's life by taking a bullet for its owner, this is terrible, but the bartender survived the attempt on his life.

This was fun and all but I'm done. I agree that too often extremism is formed on religion. However, that does not mean religion is always bad. Extremism is the issue. Why do some take their "religious" beliefs so far?

Better than a Bloody Mary, IMO. Budweiser also is making a mixture of beer and Clamato, which they call a "Chelada." It's essentially a red beer, so I can see why there was confusion between the bartender and the customer. I've never heard of a bartender getting shot for putting the wrong ingredients into a customer's drink. It probably happened during the Wild West days, when everyone went around toting pistol. That is what we seem to be returning to.
