LA Times: California Shooters Shopped At Legal Discount Gun Websites

Source: LA Times

FBI agents who searched the Redlands home of the shooters involved in a San Bernardino attack earlier this week removed a .22 caliber rifle, dozens of boxes of ammunition, weapons accessories, invoices from two gun sellers, a laptop computer and several data storage devices, according to an inventory the FBI left behind at the scene.
...
The weapons invoices came from Cheaper Than Dirt and Budsgunshop.com, but the document left at the home did not say what purchases the invoices were for.

Cheaper Than Dirt is a “shooting sports discounter” based in Fort Worth, Texas, that sells guns, ammunition and tactical gear over the phone and online, according to its website. Among its wares are camouflage armored vests, high-capacity magazines and an array of semi-automatic rifles. Its logo features a speeding bullet.
...
The site, which assures customers that “purchasing a gun online is really, very easy,” includes a specific section focused on helping Californians buy guns.

“Due to the amount of restrictions the State of California has placed for the ownership of firearms,” the site reads, “we have dedicated an entire category of our website to help get you the firearms you need! You can find some of our 100% verified California legal firearms in the categories below.”

3. I made the mistake of buying a knife from them once.....

I use it as a safety knife while boating. Good knife, but...

The spam I get from them is absolutely stomach turning. Need 420 rounds of green tipped .223 ammo? No problem, they come in a waterproof case. But three or more and save 10%. Free shipping.

I made that up, but it's the type of thing I get. Hog heaven for an ammosexual.

4. Good gun sellers are non-different from bad gun sellers

Ultimately it is going to be only those few decades as we need to reverse the curve of gun violence.

The more constant public-shaming, calling out, pointing fingers at, et cetera, that good people can muster against...

...the gun manufacturers, sellers, bad owners (your legal gun, your karma, Period), good owner defenders of the status-quo of brain splattered carnage in polite America, the open carry bullies, and all who think the gun is an appropriate "consumer item"...

...the faster we will overcome this gun-insanity.

REPEAL and REPLACE

was a news article a few weeks ago how dealers and manufacturers not only have a generous amount of immunity, but also if you sue them and fail, you have to pay their defense costs. No wonder almost no one bothers.

They have no immunity they would not be dismissed almost immediately if cases were allowed. The only protection they have is against frivolous law suits.

Those of us who are still sane and who care about this issue need to publicly shame these companies and all the politicians who take money from the gun lobby. Call them out on the damage they are doing to our country. Ban internet sales altogether of not only guns but the ammo.

Sometimes you go on a website that talks about deals and you always see gun sellers or ammo sellers with discounts. I have read people complain about having not much money, but will turn around and buy guns.

11. Meaning the guns were CA-legal, purchased legally through a local gun dealer with a background check

From the article:

“Federal law requires all firearms are to be shipped to federally licensed firearm dealers only.”

You can find some of our 100% verified California legal firearms in the categories below.”

Cheaper than Dirt is legally obligated to send a gun from their store to a gun store with a firearms license in your state. It cannot and will not mail a gun through the mail directly to your house. A gun purchased through a licensed dealer would require a federal background check be completed before being handed over.

12. California has some pretty restrictive gun laws

but they also grandfathered into just around eveyone before the bans on high-capacity ammo went into effect, and I don't know if these two were grandfathered in or what.

13. Grandfathering only applies to guns physically in CA before the laws went into effect

Any gun or high-capacity magazine legally brought into the state, regardless of age, must comply with current California gun laws. Of course, it's relatively easy to drive across the state border and purchase and illegally bring home things like high-capacity magazines that can't be traced, but guns aren't so easy. They have serial numbers.

If Cheaper than Dirt sent non-CA-legal guns across state lines, even used ones made 20 years ago before California's assault weapon ban, the serial numbers on the guns will easily verify that. And if that did happen, Cheaper than Dirt will be out of business in record time. However, since they have an entire portion of their site set up specifically for CA-legal guns, it appears that wasn't the case.
