Sanders: I'm frightened about the planet we're going to leave

Source: CBS News

By REBECCA KAPLAN

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is preparing to roll out a plan to deal with climate change that includes a tax on carbon pollution, which he says is the necessary response to threat posed by global warming.

"You want to talk about being frightened? I am frightened about the planet we're going to leave our kids if we don't act," Sanders said in an interview on CBS" "Face the Nation" Sunday.

His plan, which his campaign says he will release soon, aims to cut carbon pollution by 40 percent by 2030 and 80 percent by 2050. By comparison, President Obama has pledged to cut carbon emissions by 26 to 28 percent by 2025 as part of the ongoing Paris climate talks.

In addition to a tax on carbon pollution, Sanders is promising to repeal fossil fuel subsidies and make "massive" investments in energy efficiency and clean, sustainable energy like wind and solar power.

the rest seem to be fiddling while the planet burns. Because 'business' or 'taxes' or something.

Today, we can swim in it.

The EPA made a difference back then.

We can make a difference today.

and not long after visited Mount Vernon, which is directly on the Potomac. At the time there were signs near the water saying "Avoid contact with polluted river water."

A few years later those signs were gone.

If we lose the planet, we lose everything. Nothing is more important than preventing the sixth extinction.

of extra-terrestrial intelligent life. While it's often assumed that life, including intelligent life, ought to be reasonably common in the Universe as a whole, and in our own galaxy, the question remains: Where are they?

Various theories abound, but I'm being more drawn to the possibility that an intelligent species destroys itself, or its planet before it can possibly achieve interstellar travel. It sure looks as that's what we are going to do.

The aliens were going to kill us all because the Earth was too important of a planet for "mankind" to destroy.

Saved at the bell.....

Just a movie, but a little deep for the "drill baby drill" ass hats.

But there probably are not any aliens out there paying any attention whatsoever to us.

Of course, other galaxies, billions of light years away, might well be teeming with intelligent life, and we'll never know, because the distance is impossible to bridge.

I think, I'm glad I'm "old" (currently mid-60s) because I assume I won't have to put up with the world's idiocy and evil a whole lot longer. The bulk of my lifespan is over.

However, I'm studying Buddhism and if it's right about reincarnation and having life after life after life in front of a person due to karma - all I can say is OH SHIT!

A quote from coffeekid99 on youtube:

K, so Chief Iron Eyes Cody wasn't a real Native American after all. That didn't stop the ad campaign from having a tremendous effect back then. And it's no less relevant today.
