U.S. must watch Iran for signs it is violating nuclear deal, Clinton says

Source: Washington Post

Iran is sure to violate the international nuclear pact it signed this year, and the United States must be firm and swift in cracking down on any cheating, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said Sunday.

“I have every reason to believe the Iranians are going to test it. They are going to violate it, they are going to be provocative about it, and we need to respond quickly and very harshly,” Clinton said. “And if we have any evidence that they are back into moving toward a nuclear weapon, then we will have to act even more directly.”

“They are going to test. It’s just their nature,” Clinton said of the Iranians. “They are going to test us, and we have to stop them and demonstrate to them that we intend to hold them to that agreement.”

Warning repeatedly that the United States must tolerate no bending of the rules and be ready to reapply sanctions, Clinton had an implicit warning for Obama.

“How we handle enforcement in these early months will set the tone for years to come,” Clinton said. “We have to get it right. Our message to Iran must be unequivocal. There will be consequences for even small violations.”

Hillary Clinton Corrects Flub, Thanks to Supreme Court Justice Breyer
By ALI DUKAKIS WASHINGTON, D.C. — Dec 6, 2015, 6:26 PM ET

Hillary Clinton was able to quickly correct what could have been a disastrous word flub were it not for the watchful ear of Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer on Sunday.

Following an exclusive interview with ABC’s George Stephanopolos on "This Week" Sunday morning, the Democratic presidential frontrunner delivered the keynote address at the Brookings Institution’s Saban Forum 2015.

While responding to a question about comments she made about keeping military action against Iran on the table should they violate the terms of the nuclear agreement, which Clinton said "is not perfect," she warned: "What I said and what I mean is that there will have to be consequences for any violation by Iran and that the nuclear option should not at all be taken off the table. That has been my position consistently."

The crowd erupted into gasps and chatter regarding what appeared to be Clinton suggesting a nuclear weapon could be used against Iran if they fail to comply. Moments later, a lone, muffled voice rose from the front row with a loud, but inaudible, interjection.
"What? The military option," Clinton said, correcting herself.

"Thank you, Justice Breyer," she added, revealing the identity of the lone voice as none other than the Supreme Court Justice’s.

Of making the use of the more standard language that the military option is still on the table seem mild in comparison. It is fortunate that Beyer spoke out.

One thing to consider is that the very militant words on Iran reflect the audience she is speaking to and were designed to appease Israel. However, most Israeli accounts I listened to saw little difference between her position and the Obama administration.

They are NOT out of compliance with the Iran deal.

That is not to say that this is not serious, but it is not accuracte to say they are not complying with the Iran deal ... which had no provisions on anything other than things related to getting a nuclear bomb.

is more in line with Netanyahu than Obama's. If she becomes president, she will do exactly what any of the Republicans would do and drop the deal Obama accomplished with Iran.

And the "nuclear option" was not a slip - she meant what she said, don't be fooled.

The sanctions relief may start as early as this coming January if Iran does all that is asked of it. If Iran does nothing outrageous, a new US administration can not get the sanctions back on because the rest of the world will not agree. Iran will also get its funds unfrozen.
Neither the US or israel have much business with Iran so unilateral sanctions do nothing.

The other provisions are the ones the world demanded which provide for strong monitoring of Iran's program.

She's going to keep rattling her sabre every day, just to prove that she's really tough. Just like her IWR vote. She'll say or do anything, if she thinks it will get her right wing votes.

Which shows just how smart she is. She could come right out and say she wants to nuke Iran and the right wing would still not vote for her. Why does she try to appease them? Or is it just her true nature?
