Working Families Party Endorses Bernie Sanders for President
Source: New York Times
The Working Families Party, the labor-aligned third party that originated in New York City and has sought to become a national force, is endorsing Senator Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton, according to one of the groups founders.
The endorsement is the first in a national race for the party, which is now in almost a dozen other states and which is trying to leave its mark on progressive politics at a moment when income inequality is a major focus of discussion.
But the endorsement is notable in part because of the partys ties to Bill de Blasio, the mayor of New York City who, after months of hedging, recently endorsed Mrs. Clinton. Mr. de Blasio managed Mrs. Clintons successful run for the United States Senate from New York in 2000.
In an interview, Dan Cantor, who helped found the party, called the endorsement of Mr. Sanders a big moment for us. He said the partys members overwhelmingly supported Mr. Sanders in an online vote. He declined to specify how many people voted.

(45,319 posts)example Oregon's Senator Jeff Merkley was nominated by both WFP and the Democratic Party. It's a growing grass roots organization, currently in 8 States.

(20,176 posts)Based in NYC, they have more real impact in CT; less-so elsewhere in the northeast. You pretty much need the WF cross-endorsement to win Democratic primaries in Hartford, New Haven, Waterbury, New Britain, Bridgeport and Danbury...less so in the coastal affluent urban areas like Stamford.
This is a CT problem for Clinton though. WF is strong in CT, especially in the cities...enough so that if Sanders appears on the WF line and Clinton on the D line on the GE ballot...she probably will have issues winning the state of CT. Statewide races here are close but consistently go Democratic. Sanders will draw at-worst high single or low double-digits from a WF ballot line, enough to possibly tip the state.

(40,037 posts)in fact it was open in all sites. They endorse just about every small local election here just barely enough to remain relevant to being on the ballot. Seems like evey couple cycles an new party invention is started this one was formerly the New Party.
The Gop does the same with the Independence party & Conservative Party and now the Reform Party which suddenly appeared this year.
