WASHINGTON (AP) An Associated Press-GfK poll finds that support for legal abortion in the U.S. has edged up to its highest level in the past two years, with an apparent increase in support among Democrats and Republicans alike.
Nearly six in 10 Americans 58 percent now think abortion should be legal in most or all cases, up from 51 percent who said so at the beginning of the year. The survey was conducted after three people were killed last month in a shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado.

A very small number of pro-lifers clamor loudly enough that we all have to hear it.

(10,919 posts)more percentage points than men; but in some years men are a bit more pro-choice. Though a substantial gap has opened up in the last few years -- 54% to 46% in the 2015 poll (see graph).
Before 2012, it was pretty close to even.

I've seen other polling results, including many different variations of the questions asked, with the results that women are a little more pro-choice than men, but not by all that much. I don't know where the meme got started that almost all women are prochoice while almost all men are anti-choice, as there has never been any evidence of that.

(10,919 posts)taken all together didn't hurt but helped. I hope this isn't a temporary blip because of sympathy for PP because of the shootings, which will inevitably fade from memory.
