Natalie Cole - Dead at age 65
Source: TMZ
Natalie Cole -- one of the great voices in decades -- has died ... TMZ has learned.
Cole, whose hits include "This Will Be" and "Unforgettable" which she performed as a virtual duet with dad Nat King Cole -- died from congestive heart failure, although we're told the underlying medical issues were complications from a kidney transplant and Hepatitis C.

Never more so than when Natalie Cole was singing "Cry Me A River."

and following in his foot steps. You did it with grace.
Also, I had no idea till I heard today that her mother sang with the Count Basie Orchestra.
Sad.

(128,909 posts)not unexpected. Have followed her Hep C ordeal and had been rooting for her as she fought to make a comeback despite the issues... but alas...
A great voice now silenced. R.I.P. and many condolences to her family.

(35,662 posts)I'm going to differ with all of you. It's better to be out of here at 65 and not have to endure old age. Old age sucks as a way to go. Take your assisted living at 6 grand a month, Depends, and walker; I want nothing to do with them. I would rather exit stage left than endure all that.
I think, actually, though, that 75 might be a little better.
But back to the main point: Despite drugs being a major challenge, Natalie had a fabulous life, having had a famous father, a musical career of her own, doing what she did best. She was in the thick of the music and acting business, knowing just about everybody who was anybody. Grammy winner, several times over.
"Unforgettable!"

(89,248 posts)And Obama will be in just about 10 years or so.
Natalie Cole was probably suffering more than those older then her for a while.
It can be a lot older; I think it depends on the individual. Some people age well, some don't.
I have two elderly relatives in assisted living now. They're so freaking old they hardly know what's going on. Between the two, the bills each month are around $12k. And that sure isn't counting the bills to Medicare. Neither one of them wants to live like this, dependent on aides who could really give a ratz ass over their comfort or condition, despite the very nice places they live in.
All I'm really saying, though, is that she escaped that fate. Wish I could.

(9,350 posts)65 is still pretty young for someone to die. However, at least she made it to 65. There are so many who do not make it to 65. So, while I was sad that she died at 65 I was also happy she made it to 65.

(1,819 posts)and rolls down my cheek. Your passing is sad but I hope you know it may be beneficial to those afflicted with Hepatitis C, you leave behind. Your voice may be quiet now but it will never be silenced.
After the years many good people have put into the fight against this disease, the people in charge of budgets are paying attention and it's partially due to more attention being paid because of hight profile people dying from hepC.
If you or anyone you know battles this disease, and has questions please contact: http://hepcchallenge.org

Actually, listening to her music in this thread is a melancholy but lovely way to start the year.
I didn't know she was having health issues. I'm glad it's over for her and she won't have to suffer any more. RIP Natalie

(13,324 posts)I probably shouldn't pry, but was her Hep C related to drug use? I ask because I'm quite familiar with that connection, despite thankfully not being infected myself.
